Blind Spot Side View Mirror Installation (Aspherical) - DIY
Hi Guys,
I purchased a Panamera that didn't have the blind spot assist feature. I have always purchased aspheric mirror glass for side view mirrors as it gives me extra confidence while driving.
I wanted to make this post to show other members how to change their factory convex mirrors to the blind-spot aspherical mirror.
Part numbers I used for Non-Dimming, Heated Mirrors:
Step 1.
Grab a door panel pry tool. I purchased a set of pry tools from Harbor Freight. You will want to adjust your mirror so that it's as far out as it will go towards the outside end of the mirror. Simply put your pry tool behind the edge of the mirror and apply consistent, even pressure. The mirror will unlatch from the motor mechanism.
Step 2. Remove the heated mirror power terminals and plug for auto dimming mirrors, if you car is so equipped and remove the mirror completely.
Step 3. Grab the new aspheric mirror, attach all the electrical connectors.
Step 4. Apply firm pressure to the mirror to enable it to attach to the motor mechanism.
Notes:
1. Protect your paint. Make sure you're careful when working around the mirror and door. You don't want to damage the paint or mirror.
2.Wear gloves! Smears and stains on mirrors are not fun to take out!
3. Apply even pressure! Don't try to suddenly "jerk" the mirror off, it may break - It's glass!
I hope this helps out some members,
