PTT upper control arm removal question

I was read in a service manual about removal of the upper control arm, and think it stated there is access to screws, without need to remove the entire shock.

Can anyone comment on this from experience? I will be doing this soon and wanted to get additional info on this. Avoiding removal of shock saves you need to disconnect from air suspension, removing entire shock. On Cayenne that was the case, where upper control arm required removing entire shock, so access to upper control arm could be made.

if I remember correctly there is no access to control arm bolts/nuts without lowering shocks.

thanks. i will look at the bolts on upper control arms. will see if they can be removed without dropping shocks. I saw for myself the upper arms do not mount onto each shock (like they do in cayenne), but to body around shocks. tx

Have a question for you, what did you do about the Nitrogen for air suspension? Did you have equipment to refill? Did you go to shop to get filled? Thanks.


Did see it, and also inspected upper control arm as I was doing the lower control arm. The bolts for upper control arm are exposed under the wheel well. One side of them, the ones closest to the shock.
I will have to se if the bolts are removed by sliding away from shock, or by sliding towards shock. If the second, that means shock must be removed. If the first, means the shock can stay in place since the nuts will fall down once you slide bolt out on inside of engine compartment.
I may actually re install these bolts in such way to enable removal without moving shock out.

I did nothing. Reconnected everything and waited till system filled up.

And as one Porsche mechanic told me: 'what is special about Porsche air compressor comparing with other brands/ think about it; it's the same like with tires, you can fill with nitrogen as well' .....

Second. pity I can't find photos when was doing this job...
regarding reinstall bolts opposite way might be possible but only and maybe two, others won't be possible to slide in because lack of space, but again, **** that i can't find photos, then could tell exactly how it was; anyway to put back two nuts was a challenge !

Frim what I was told nitrogen keeps parts from rusting due to age. Agree, compressor will work with air too.
I will take a peek when I decide to tackle both upper control arms.

About nuts, yes, I can see how tbese could be hard to put in.
