Has anyone done this? Specifically the rectangular pieces by the vents and windshield? Wondering if these pieces can be removed for repair, the sun has made them to start rippling.

I’ve the same issue, so interested in any solutions, but think it’ll be very expensive to fix.
My leather has shrunk and pulled from the staples also. I was hoping to take the panels out to a leather repair specialist but they appear to be non-removable unless the whole dash comes out. Looks to be an in-car repair but there’s not much room to work. I’m just waiting for time to get the car to a repair guy for an opinion.
Find a local auto upholstery shop for advice? I was referred to a local shop (Newark, DE) for sunroof replacement on a different vehicle that specializes in small upholstery and trim repairs. This was posted on their Facebook page...

I investigated a bit too and found the same. I also took a peak underneath the leather and it turns out it is black plastic. I thought about taking off those pieces since they are near the dash and cleaning up the plastic but it just doesn't feel right!!

Whatever you decide to do, BE CAREFUL! If you’ve ever changed your cabin filter you’d have had to remove the panel under the dash on the passenger side. I believe one of the “pins” that help hold it in place was already broken when I removed it, but it may have been me that broke it. I ordered a replacement and the parts guy said 4-6 weeks, because it’s coming from Germany....
You need to be really careful with all those manipulations. I would still advise you to take the car to a local repair shop if you are unsure you can do that yourself or don’t have enough time.
I usually choose the second variant because I am busy and don’t want to risk my car’s life trying to repair something. That’s why, in most cases, it goes to a good repair shop where they do it fast and qualitatively. I can even track the process through this link here and see what manipulations they do with the car at the moment. It calms me down because I know my car is being processed.
