PSA- change your final drive fluid!
 

Thought I would post this up as I changed mine tonight and it was disgusting. I am slightly disappointed I didn’t do it sooner as the condition of the current fluid is very bad!

last year I had the PDK trans fluid changed at the dealer ship- $1000

last month I had the rear diff fluid changed $279

they wanted $2200 to change the front/final drive fluid so I elected to do it myself.

ciaka did a great write up about it so tonight I changed it out. It really needed it as you can see from the photos, I’m not sure where this fluid falls in the service interval but it IMO it should be done at least 40k/5 years. My car is a ‘12 model turbo with 51k miles on it.

The new fluid is clear with a slight yellow tint so as you can see it needed changed badly. I don’t know why Porsche didn’t put this in the 60k service interval.

Good job! Can you post the link to the Ciaka how to?

He just siphons it out, the fill hole is relatively easy to get to, while the drain is a nightmare to get access to. (did mine earlier this year)
much simpler and whole lot quicker to just siphon it out, you will need a fairly small diameter hose to get way in there.

So is this service specific to the AWD Panameras or is it universal? I am asking because I've seen on some other threads that there are two different fluids to change in the PDK.

PDK has one fluid in the Panamera's, AWD cars have front and rear diff's that need changed, but you can use the same fluid for both.

Great video, but that's not the version in our cars, both the 2 and 4 wheel version get the output from the back of the transmission (video is probably of the 911 variant) with a shaft redirecting the power forward.
there is no Diff in the transmission, the front diff oil is a much heavier and separate entity

yea looks like your right buddy, got ahead of myself there after watching that video on the ZF website.

never the less just trying to let people know don’t wait to change it, I wish I would of changed mine sooner.

Only reason I knew was I thought the same as you did and we had a big discussion about it a couple years ago, and you are absolutely right about changing the fluids

Just bought all the fluids to change the PDK and rear diff oils. As well as the engine oil. That PDK fluid must be made of dragon scales and virgin tears.

Porsche known for doing this.
example: cayenne trans fluid was same price. One forum person did chemical composition test on it, compared to transmission fluid for toyota (sent both it for chemical analysis).
you know what he found? Both were virtually identical.
Since then, many switched to the toyota fluid with no negative effects.
Toyota fluid was $6 per quart, while porsche was $35 per quart.

Yes, owning the pony means your anus has to be huge, to accomodate all, that Porsche will ram through it.

I went with your recommendation for the Delvac 1 for front unit.

Are you guys using ramps, jacks, or the premium Quick Jack to raise the car up?

for the front diff I just used a low profile jack on the pass side where I took the wheel off, when filling the unit the car needs to be level.
