DIY: Panamera turbo front final drive fluid change
Today I did front final drive gear oil change.
This DIY will show you how I did it.
Since I had a hard time to access the drain plug, I removed fill plug and used a pump to suck out the final drive oil.
Worked really well, and helped avoid messy drain, which puts oil onto the lower axle carrier frame too.
FSM calls for change quantity of 0.42L, and I managed to remove about that much from the drive, so I feel confident I got it all.
Used empty oil can go suck old oil into it, and another empty oil can to put same amount of new oil it, making sure I fill with what I removed.
I actually filled the new oil can with maybe 1/4" more oil, to accommodate for some oil that pump cannot take out of can, and some oil left in tubing.
Look at this DIY before you do the change. Make sure you have all materials and time to do it. Expect about an hour to hour and a half to complete.
Let us know if you have comments. Thank you.
Fluid details - Front final drive:
Service Manual - factory fill: Shell TF0951 - Fill Qty: 0.425L
Number 9 on page 518 of Tequipment manual (Panamera 2010-Today)
Part number 000 043 301 18
I found direct cross reference to Mobil Delvac 1 synthetic gear oil 75W-90 (that is what I used in my front final drive fluid change)
Fill until spills out of fill hole, then close
What I used
Mobil Delvac 1 synthetic gear oil 75W-90 (due to direct cross reference with Shell TF0951)
Fluid details - Rear differential:
Service Manual - factory fill: #18 on page 527 of Tequipment manual (Panamera 2010-Today) - Fill Qty: 1.15L for my PTT
Part No. 000 043 205 30
75 W 90 GL-5 rated gear oil with carbon modifiers
Fill until it drips out fill hole, then close
What I used:
Mobil Delvac 1 75 W 90 gear oil (same as front final drive since has modifiers in it, and meets GL-5 rating as well)
FSM fluid quantities:
FRONT FINAL DRIVE, DRAIN & FILL PLUG TORQUES: NOTE: Do not use torques listed in images below...use ones from table below.
You are correct with your factory/FSM fluid numbers.
You can purchase OEM fluids to do the job. I chose to use direct cross referenced fluid, Mobil Delvac 1 75W90 gear oil. Meets the requirements for front (and direct cross reference), and meets all rear diff. requirements too of GL-5.
For the front you will use about half a quart - some will stay in pump, etc.
For rear, my turbo used about 1.1liter (about 1 quart + a glass full or 250cc, so about 1 quart plus 1/4 of another quart). Quantities are in liters. 1 quart is 947mL, short of 1000mL. So I would order more than 1 quart for rear diff.
I edited my original post to include these details for future use. Thank you.
Is there an second alternative for the Porsche oil / Shell Spirax TF0951 and Mobil 1 Delvac?
The Shell and Mobil 1 oil are impossible to find in Holland..
Mobil Delvac 1 75 W 90 gear oil (same as front final drive since has modifiers in it, and meets GL-5 rating as well)
Does this mean you have used the same oil for both the front final drive as the rear differential?
One other possible alternative I have found and suggested by part dealers here is the Motul Gear 300 (LS) for at least the rear differential but would like to double check if this is true and also if I can use the Motul oil for the front final drive.
I just did the front diff today @ 70K. I should often do every 30K. Thank you to everyone in this forum for your DIY contribution. I used the same method as Dr.Ciaka, bump the fluid out. I will do the rear later next week. My car AC is not working, not cold, bring the car to Porsche tomorrow, 3 wks appointment with a loaner car, $painful. No more warranty ...
