Coolant issue

So, today I took my 2011 4S to the local Safeway to grab a few things. When I pulled it out of the garage, I got a "check engine coolant" warning which I've gotten a few times before in the past few years and it was usually fixed with a top off of the coolant tank but not this time. During my 1 mile or so drive I watched as my water temp reading went to 201 and then to 255 and back and forth between the two readings. The oil temp did not increase any more than usual during this time so I was pretty sure I wasn't cooking my engine. I drove home after getting my groceries with the same scenario and put the car back in the garage. I found no coolant under the car in the garage but there was some in the driveway from where i backed into the garage. I checked the coolant level and it took about 3.5 qts to refill it so somethings up. I didn't see any fluid in the engine compartment but there was a little moisture on the under belly covering beneath the front of the engine. I had the recall for the thermostat housing and there is no moisture there so I'm thinking what, maybe the water pump? The car has 92K on it so it may be due by now. If it is, what else should I have done when it's in for this service? timing chain?

There is a smaller diameter plastic coolant pipe that sits in the engine “V” that is known to fail. Get a borescope and check for coolant in the V.

Interesting that yours was recalled for the thermostat housing. I have a 2014 GTS with the same glued housing but there is no recall. I planned to replace it this year.

I have a 2014 PTT and had this problem two years ago. Porsche fixed with the updated thermostat housing and provided some financial relief due to the recalled nature of the failed part.

I may have been incorrect when I stated it was a recall. I checked my records and found it was done under warranty. It was before I purchased the car.
