The 996 TT really works on track! ***VIDEO***

I just got back from my first track event in my 996 TT. I was so surprised at how well it did. I put quite a bit of time into getting it ready but it is still also a very stockish setup. Best time was 1:17.13

Stock rotors and pads, stock shocks

mods: H&R Springs, GT3 lower control arms -2.4 front, -2.1 rear, Protomotive intercoolers, GT2 clutch, Markski catless exhaust, Softronic 1 bar tune
BFG G-Force Rival S tires in GT2 sizes

Here's a video of my last session of the weekend. The 1:17.13 is the last lap on this video. This is from the PCA red group

Great video...thanks for sharing. Amazing what a proper alignment and couple suspension tweaks can do for these cars!!

Sorry for the silly question but what type of camera are you using and how are you not getting any wind noise??

Thanks. You're exactly right. Just a few suspension tweaks is all it needed.

The camera is a GoPro Hero3 with skeleton case and an external lapel microphone clipped to the license plate. Zero wind noise and it makes every car sound amazing! Most all of my other vids on YouTube have the same setup. I hated the wind noise. I bought the mic at RadioShack and the microphone adapter from GoPro directly.

Thanks for the reply...I would have never thought of that setup/position for the mic. I really appreciate the tip I'm going to give that setup a shot.

Make sure it's the powered lapel mic which has a small watch style battery inside

I wonder if anyone has logged a 1bar tune with stock intercoolers under this environment? I wonder how much timing is being pulled (and HP lost) after the first 5 or 6 min.

Looks like an absolute rocketship and makes me want to sell my low hp track car to Double Duty the TT. You absolutely fly past everything else on track, especially my lowly old e36 m3 brothers!

Be at putnam this weekend (BMWCCA) in case you have any tips!

Yeah I'm not sure about how the stock intercoolers are in this environment. Markski highly recommended running 104 octane if I stayed with the stock coolers with the 1 bar tune. Apparently the stock setup is pretty bad on multiple pulls. I decided to go ahead and put on the Protomotive coolers just to be safe. I knew I was going to put a lot of heat in the car. Better to be safe IMO

Tip: be prepared to chew up your tires

Are you running the rivals as a summer tire or just at the track? What are your impressions of them?

These are mostly my every day street tire. This is my second set of Rivals. But this is my first set of Rival S. I had a 2010 Lancer EVO that I used the original Rival on. With the Rivals on the EVO, I was able to get a full season of autocross and two DE events at Putnam. I heat cycled them out before I ran out of tread. I loved them. They worked well in all areas. Much quieter than the R888 and tons of grip on track and in autoX. Now to the Rival S, these were great on track and great at the first autocross of the season. But it appears that they will not make another DE. These seem to wear much faster that the standard Rival. Granted I was going 2 seconds faster per lap and about 10-12 mph more per straight in a similar weighted car. And maybe the tire wear characteristics of the Porsche are different. My thoughts after the weekend is that I might try the NT01 and see which last longer.

Incredible how fast you are going with such minimal, but precise mods! Video was perfect to along with the sound. I will also give that setup a try. I can't wait for my next DE. Is the brake fluid still stock or did you change it out for a better performing one? You were crushing it out there!!!
