Upgraded gaskets and studs.

It was pulled once for a ****ed off piston, as I noted in my previous thread - CP corrected it on their dime and everything was cleared, verified, and installed.
My head has never leaked, never had a gasket clamping issue, never had oil coming from the head, etc. I'm using the cometic and the 12mm SRM stud kit.
Should get your facts straight before you run your mouth about other builds.
i kind of like a builder thats willing to trash his own motor to find the limits before he builds other peoples cars. if you remember sean came onto the forum with a single thread about building "his" motor. never said a word about his company or wanting to drum up business. he built it beat on it broke it then figured out how to make it stronger. its what drew me to let him build mine
32krazy! please spare me your nonsense posts as someone else posted about you doing marketing and sending people to vendors here. Your posts I really couldn't care less for and you can take it any way you want. Anyone that looks at your posts on here can clearly see what's going on so please spare me this nonsense. You clearly went to SRM for the deal in return for pushing people to them. I'm fine with that and don't care but don't start telling me I'm wrong because you want to push further on your marketing agenda. Anyways I'm not one of those guys to be pushed around so stop and try to understand I am using my experience and not what some vendor told me nor am I trying to kiss any vendor's *** for a discount.
Back on topic, given OEM studs are torqued so low and do provide plenty of stretch and also we know stock motors hold quite a bit of power without blowing headgaskets (they bend rods) what makes you think that going with twice or more on the tq rating and using studs that don't stretch and need case to be drilled is a good idea or necessary? Do you realize things like this take time to show fatigue on the head? I guess that doesn't matter if you live your life 1/2 mile at a time.

i do live by the half mile . no need for 1000 hp for road racing. and when engine builders who build 1500+ rwhp motors use 12mm studs i ask why. i dont assume the stock setup wiil hold. and its been proven time and time again that stock studs DONT hold they lift. thats why they are some of the first things replaced and in case you didnt realize it EVERYTHING on these motors is a wear item when you push it to the limits. in fact even porsche thinks 50 hrs is more than enough wear to require a tear down and replacement of just about everything in their race cars. but of course they arent racing diesels
you need to reread the o/p title he asked i answered. didnt say a word about any shop or my preference. its you thats got a hard on for srm. thats your issue not mine.
Members should know that Obb has ip's in common with former vendor Pro tuning freaks and may have skin in the game...he has also made two additional user accounts that have been banned including dzennoptf

I think that came from me, I used it on my base gasket which is only 1 layer on the 996. I've had good luck with it before.
Hey guys, we felt obliged to re-join on here and clear the air as it seems our name came up.
Obb (Peter) is a former customer of ours whom we helped with remote tuning last year. Outside of tuning Peter's car last year PTF or I have no other association with him. ALL of the opinions he's expressed above are solely his own and we have never advised him on anything outside of tuning for his bolt-on setup itself that he came to us for.
Everything provided from Sean on the hardware side to us has been top notch quality and for the price its next to impossible to beat out there. I'm in contact with Sean over Facebook and as you can probably tell from the screenshot shared I'm not happy at all with the way this thread has turned out.
Peter, I sincerely hope you understand the guys on here are doing you and everyone else a huge favour by letting you know how to do things right the first time. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but opinions only go so far and can/do cost people dearly a lot of times.
Last but not least, Sean, my 12mm stud kit is still not here, worst!
Cheers everyone and have a great long weekend!

Problem for me is all the multiple user accounts and common ip's with Obb and PTF....doesn't look right but I'll let him have his say if you think it will help

basically at this point and time heres the choices anyone will have regarding this issue
1. stock studs and gaskets. good until they let go
2. racewear 10mm studs oem gaskets. require a retorque and that means 2 engine out procedures. there are engine builders who have had success at 4 digit power but they keep the way they do it a secret.
3. 12mm evoms studs and cometic gaskets. oem gaskets wont work due to the 12mm holes. motors built to 1700+ and still holding.
4. srm arp 12mm studs and cometic gaskets. this seems like a good inexpensive alternative to the much more expensive evoms studs. theres a couple guys who are trying these and we should have some solid data in the next couple months. until then its an unknown.
none of the 12mm require a retorque which helps offset the machine work and added stud cost pricing.
5.protomotive 11mm studs. dont know much about them but todd is the o/g when it comes to porsche and building /tuning fast reliable cars.
6. arp 10mm studs. i had a set early on never installed them. was told they are basically oem studs by arp in the design and strength.
gaskets. oem seem to be very good. thats if you go 10mm. the oem dont have a 12mm gasket so whether you are 3.6 or 3.8 you have to use cometic gaskets which is the only gasket i know of for 12mm.
thats about it when it comes to studs. do your research choose wisely. hydrolocked motors and blown head gaskets suck and are very costly!
