Ran my 991.2 Turbo S at Atco a couple of times...NO PHOTOSHOP
In the thread I created when I picked up my new 991.2 TS from Champion, I made a remark about the bone stock 991.2 TS feeling “almost” as fast as my previous 2011 997.2 T with Champion/GIAC 9sec tune, Champion IC, and Speedtech 3.5” exhaust. Definitely from 0-100mph. >100mph my modded 997.2 pulled harder. I also stated that it felt noticeably quicker and more powerful than my stock 2016 991.1 TS really at all speeds but especially over a 100mph. I had imagined it felt like my 991.1 TS would with a tune. I hadn’t driven a tuned 991.1 to say that with conviction, but I would have bet on it.
In the next few months, magazine tests and GMD2003’s Vbox data supported my impressions. All tests were reporting times between 10.49 – 10.6 and 130 -133mph bone stock.
A few days before Thanksgiving I put on winter tires. I made a few launches in 40 degree weather and I was shocked at how well it hooked so I decided to go to Atco with some friends the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Bone stock w/Michelin Alpins. It was in the 50s, but oddly enough the track proved worse than the private farm road I had tried on Thanksgiving night. My best times were 10.69 & 10.700 @ 132mph. So at least the mph was where it was supposed to be, but I couldn’t do better than a high 1.6x 60 foot.
That weekend I read GMD2003’s review of the Kline exhaust and his updated times on his .2. His mph didn’t improve but he picked up almost a full 10th according to his Vbox.
I was part of a track rental at Atco coming up the following Friday (12/2) with a few other 6speeders (JMorgan, Renaissance Man, & Enzom). Of course I didn’t want to go to a rental and just run 10.7s all day, so I called up Sam about a set of exhaust & headers. I found a shop to squeeze me in their schedule for the install, but then had to cancel my appointment when I changed my mind after the exhaust shipped because I decided I wanted Inconel instead of stainless steel. Cats and test pipes. The stainless exhaust was already on its way and it didn’t look like my Inconel setup would make it in time for the shop to guarantee install before the track rental. In typical Sam fashion he accommodated my last minute change after my initial order had shipped and I had to scramble to find a way to have it installed. Luckily one of my best friends got me squared away at the last minute. Later on Thursday another good friend who owns the shop that did the awesome interior work on my SLC installed my stock pzeros at 11pm Thursday night. I'm grateful to have top rate people in my life that came through for me.
I read all of the posts about Sam’s service, but this was the first time I did any business with him. The hype is real. I wonder if he has his cell phone cloned with a team responding for him. I don’t know how he responds so quickly no matter the day or time and follows up the way he does. Super guy. My Kline setup is exactly as he guaranteed it to be – jeckle and hyde. It is actually quieter than stock and drones less at cruise than the factory exhaust and wails like a banshee at wot. Superbike-esque. Exactly what I wanted. The quality is jewel-and everyone who has seen it and heard it has very positive things to say.
Long story short on track rental day: Weather was in the 50s again with a noticeable head wind according to Enzom and the flags. Traction was hit or miss but I was able to get better traction later in the day after being able to hot lap – and when I say hot lap, I mean hot lap - I ran 7 times in a row having the left (street tire lane) to myself which helped my tires heat up. Car never missed a bit and the mph was always within 1mph of the previous run. Zero heat soak issues. Bottom line – if I can’t get into the 9s with just a tune, exhaust, and tires I don’t think I will get a tune. Champion/GIAC?? Porsche hit it out of the park with the 991.2.
So I am confused, if you can't get into the 9s with just a tune, exhaust and tires you aren't getting a tune? Don't you need the tune to know? But anyway, great times for just headers and exhaust. Funny though, thought the ECU would detune all those bolt ons without a tune? Isn't that the stock story around here?

Not sure why you are confused. Most tuners have a test car that they post times for when they release a tune. At the least they publish power improvements with required hardware mods which would be available before I made a purchase.
Based on mph, I think the ecu does manage peak torque/power targets, however I think the power under the curve still increases with the better exhaust.
Awesome R! Thanks for the great conversations, your faith and friendship. Guys it's really amazing how when we get past the keyboard you realize so much more about the enthusiast side of members here. I'm glad I was able to help you get it done and I'm really glad you're enjoying it and I'm super glad that I think we've got some pretty amazing performance out of the By Design/Kline Inconel set-up! That's the fastest I've seen a 991.2 TTS go so great job! Here's a pic of that system in decat track form. Thanks again for the support buddy and let me know if there's anything at all you need! By the way, can't wait for the video to go up but if you think it sounds good now watch what happens in a few hundred more miles!
These were some awesome results my friend got from this at the rental. Porsche really improved things with the 991.2. Looks like the upgraded fueling and Turbos make a big difference.

Here are the slips from the rental:
Great job man ! Glad to see my results translate to the strip , looks like you had a great negative DA , but 10.29 is just incredible ! Looks like the .2 should be able to get to 9's with bolt ons and tune at a well prepped track . How are you liking the full system sound wise ? Just the Kline Inconel rear made a huge difference on mine . Glad Sam could hook you up in time for the strip ,he's a good guy who really cares about his customers and is a true enthusiast .
Mainly because I forgot there are no tunes yet for a .2. I haven't had a full pot of coffee yet

Thanks a lot guys. I'm happy to see what's possible with traction on stock tires and full exhaust. I'm happy with weight savings of the inconel as well as the perfect sound.

Thanks- agreed. I can't see how 3 tenths is a lot to ask from a first pass tune, but I wonder if we are nearing the point of diminishing returns. I hope not. The sound is awesome - and agree about Sam's service. He walks the talk.
Thanks for the post. I couldn't agree more with your observations over the .2
I just turned 4k miles on it and it actually seems more aggressive, exhaust, and the performance...Stock car for now. Should be interesting on the tunes coming out. Seems its been longer than say when the 991 came to market? It might be me but after owning 2 991.1 cars and not enjoying the tubi race and purchasing 2 europipe/s this current stock car is almost that of the .1 with the europipe sound wise.
cheers!
Nice meeting you R! Your car definitely hauled ***!!!!!
On a day where almost everyone has traction problems, I watched you launch the crap out of the car over and over again with incredible consistency. The 991.2 is such an upgrade over the 991.1 it's amazing. Too bad I didn't stick around till the end, would have loved to see it in person
