pinning coolant lines

Approximately how many coolant lines need to be pinned? Given the motor is already out, what was the labor charge others have paid/would expect to pay just for that component of the job?

i know theres 8 on a 996tt think its the same for the 997 plus 3 other fittings the are plastic and should be replaced with the sharkwerks setup.

if the engine is out its less than a couple hrs labor and maybe 3$ in hardware, red locktite.

Don't ask, just do. It should be in the hundreds of dollars. Well worth it. Do a search for what else should be done while the engine is out (e.g., check, replace vacuum lines, replace radiator overflow tank, etc. etc.).

I would have them welded instead of pinned.

If you will weld take them to the best tig welder you can find, you dont want to do them twice, if its not perfect it will leak ... Insist on a pressure test

they should definitely be pressure tested before going back in the car.

I agree with both you guys. After I finished welding them I pressure tested them. No leaks on my welds but believe it or not there was a leak where the coolant temperature sensor screws in (you can actually see the leak marks in the pictures in my thread). Tried with a new sensor and cooper washer, same thing leak again. So I put it on the mill and took off a few thousands off the casting and then of course it sealed with a fresh new surface. I can't imagine putting in the engine in only for it to leak thru the coolant temperature sensor interface surface.

Most of the work for your welder is getting the casting clean enough. Ideally a sonic cleaner would be good way to clean them. The coolant pipes using a scotch brite will work, you can also buy them in aftermarket. I would use a 4043 filler rod since you are welding on to a casting. I have seen pictures posted and I can tell the welders used 5356 which is better for a billet piece. Welders like 5356 because the weld bead looks prettier..be careful lol.

I am about done with my welding, as well as replacing every rubber hose and almost every rubber o ring and seal on the car. I will post shortly all photos and all.

There are 7 welded pipes and 3 (sharkwerks) pipes to replace and then i do advise if engine is out to replace all remaining rubber hoses. If you have questions feel free to pm me. I'll help as much as I can.

Thinking of pinning my 997TT and replace the 3 flanges as well. Which hoses should be replaced? 36,42,45 and 47 in the picture? Are there more of them?

I changed these hoses,

-997.106.233.72
-997.106.329.72
-997.106.477.72
-997.106.250.72
-996.106.529.73
-996.106.512.74

Also changed water pump, all orings, joining sockets, clamps etc.
