I throw mine on the seat next to me and try not to mess with it since it's a distraction. But I can hardly remember anymore since I haven't seen the car in 6 weeks and won't for another couple still.
There's a plug inside the center armrest and when you connect your iphone to it CarPlay automatically starts. You also get direct connection from phone to PCM that is better than bluetooth and Siri voice control by the button on left stalk. No distractions.

I use a couple of these in my airvent to hold the phone. Works great. Easy on/off. Looks good (carbon fiber finish)
I ended up getting two mounts in order to mount the phone horizontally, with maximal stability (didn't want the phone falling off when tracking car). Also, if you use one, it only holds the phone vertically from the middle of the phone, which ends up hanging over the car screen.
two of the magnetic phone holders mounted on the drivers side center console air vent. i have a Samsung Edge, and its firmly held in place this way.
i mount the cell phone horizontally. i also mount a 8 inch tablet on a joy factory magconnect carbon fiber mount attached to the front passenger seat bolt. I use the cellphone as a hotspot for the tablet which allows me to use google maps on a gloriously large screen. Also lets me run Torque Pro with large displays when tracking the car.<br/>

Reason: Add info
one mount wasn't able to hold the phone vertically, without having the phone centered over the mount, which resulted in the phone obscuring part of the car screen. i didn;t want that, so i tried mounting the phone horizontally. That resulted in the weight of the phone tipping the vent louvers down, making the phone point downwards, which i didn;t like. Getting two allows me to mount the phone sideways, and the driver side border of the dash keeps the phone from pointing downwards (prevents the vent louvers from pointing down). It's hard to explain, and may not pertain to your phone. I guess you could buy one mount and see how it works. Certainly, there are much cheaper mounts that work identically to this, thy just don;t have carbon fiber inserts.
