So I decided to go ahead and before spending 200.00$ I would test out refinishing my buttons myself. Please keep in mind I don't care for the "TEMP" or "FAN", I can live without them. This was just a test that ended up working in my favor. So if you have a 997 by now you know that temp is on the passenger side and fan is on the driver side....
...did I get you? J/k
With that being said I took it upon myself to just go with flat blk.
I was very surprised how quickly I took the unit out. 10mins tops! Taking apart the Ac unit was the more complex part of this. I would say about 15min.
the longest was waiting for paint to dry.... here are some pics.
If anyone is interested I might be willing to do some units.
hope you guys like it.
Before and after The cherry on top... ordered this online Finished product
In person is the flat black a good match with the other Button's or would a semi gloss be even closer?
flat blk is extremely close of a match. I showed a buddy the Ac controls fixed and asked him if anything looks off... he had no clue that I did anything to it.
How did the climate controls get so nasty and damaged? It appears that the Wolverine was adjusting the temperature and fan speed in your car! The climate controls in my 2008 997 TT looked new when I sold it late last year.
The main culprit is the use of a "rubbersized" coating on these ***** from the factory that doesn't hold up well (becomes gummy) and the base material being a white color which shows through really doesn't help once the wear begins.

well I assume that not only the factory defect was the problem but also the prior owner was a woman. her nails and hand lotion played a huge role in this. The shift **** as well needed to be replaced.
My buttons are in decent shape but I'm very close to pulling the trigger on respraying all the center console surrounds to semi/matte black. Not a fan of metallic bronze factory color. .2 cars look much better IMHO with black center consoles. Here's my console...

where did u get that radio kit? Is that the pioneer app radio?
Yes, Pioneer App radio. Absolutely love it! It was installed by a reputable shop in Portland Oregon. Huge improvement in functionality over the OE unit. They make a kit for the 997. Fit is very clean.

Here's what I don't understand, I have a 2008 S Cab which is a daily driver. I take the top down every single day that I can and with the humidity in Florida things on the inside take a beating. Funny thing is all buttons are fine. Steering wheel and shifter are taking a beating but no issues with radio, PCM or climate buttons.

My understanding is that '07 and above have a different finish, that is not problematic...
