Value of 993 GT2 ???
Value of 993 GT2 ???
Hi guys, My dad owns a 993 GT2 at home (Dubai) and I was curious as to the car's value over here in the states. I don't know the mileage but I believe it's a Stock Silver '98 .
Also I'm curious if this is the special Evolution version that I have read about because my dad told me its 450hp and not 430hp which the regular GT2 is reputed to produce.
"That wasn't quite the end of the story though as in April 1998, Porsche introduced an Evolution version that was available by special request. Introduced to homologate a more extreme racing variant, 21 road-going Evolution's were eventually manufactured, all of which featured high output 3.6-litre engines producing 450bhp at 6000rpm. The extra 20 horses knocked a tenth off the 0-60 sprint (now 3.6 seconds), top speed rising to 187mph"

This is what his looks like (except with different wheels):

So two questions:
1) Generally what is the 993 GT2 worth in the States ?
2) How can I tell if my dad's car is the Evolution GT2 version or the regular GT2 ? Are there any styling differences ?
Thanks

Also does that make it more valuable, since it is more of a Race version ?
Will the fact that it is not road legal really deter an enthusiast car collector...?

Ramone,
Here is some info that will help you...

The 993GT2 was never homologated for the US but you can find them in any other country as street cars, and race cars.. Check out the bit about the VIN number in the link to know the difference between race and street versions
The EVO does not mean it is the racing version. The racing version had a TAG ECU instead of the Bosch Motronic 5.2.. It also had 5 fuel pumps, a totally stripped down interior (no carpets, sound padding etc..) , it had an integrated MAtter rollcage , and many other racing gizmos.
They also came with BBS Magnesium wheels instead of the Speedline Magnesium that you see in the picture.
They also had a pressure sensing system (no MAF), and were run at 1.2 Bar and 600+ HP with restrictors. The intercooler is a Secan intercooler on the EVO ('98) racing version. The engine had no mufflers, cats etc.. obviously...
What your dad has is most likely the street version of the 993GT2, which is in fact more valuable than the race version, if it is still 100% original and well kept and maintained.
Your dad seems to know a lot about Porsche cars, this is not a car people know about in this part of the world (I am in Saudi) nor appreciate.
Let me know if you need more info.
Cheers.
Jean

If my dad's car is indeed the street version of the 993GT2, and given that it is 100% original and well kept and maintianed what would you guess its general price range would be ?
Also, just curious. Where in Saudi are you and what are you doing ?
Thanks again Jean

Your best bet is to check out places like www.mobile.de to have an idea of what prices they go for... or sell it to me for $100k
Moving to Dubai in a month.
Glad to help.

Good idea on the move
Ramone, that is a new race GT2, value will be different I am sure. It has been for sale for a very long time however.
Phoenix you are welcome. The street GT2 car did not come with a Secan, it came with a BEHR (factory) intercooler. The 600HP Evolution version had a larger (and thinner) and pressure sensing adapted Secan intercooler.
