2005 Porsche 997 S

Year: 2005
Make: Porsche
Model: 911
Price: $39500
Mileage: 44500
Color: Arctic Silver
Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing
Location (State): TX
Transmission: Manual
Drivetrain: Rear Wheel Drive

As the title states, I've got a 2005 Porsche 997 S 6MT in Artic Silver and Stone Gray Leather interior with 44,500 miles in Houston, Texas. It had been a CPO vehicle which expired March of this year. I am the 3rd Owner and have the most recent service records. The car is a spartanly optioned S model boiled down to its very essence. Clean Carfax.

VIN#WP0AB29945S741727
Factory Options: Power Seat Package, Wheel Caps with Colored Crests
Aftermarket: Porsche clear side markers, 25% tint all around

Condition: EXTERIOR: No door dings or major scratches. There are a few scattered rock chips over the front hood and bumper. My detailer used a 27 gauge syringe with Porsche touch up paint to fill these in and you can still catch them in the right lighting. There also is a small 0.5 inch by 0.5 inch depression over the inferior edge of the central bumper area which is flat. There is no paint damage in this area and it's very subtle. You can barely feel it running your hand over the area. I took it to a guy who specializes in paintless plastic bumper repair using heat and specialized tools and he couldn't even see it until he used his flood lights at certain angles. He told me it was so small that it wasn't worth fixing. I'm almost positive that you wouldn't notice it until I pointed it out. There was small curb rash over the passenger side rims, but I had them refinished and they look perfect. The driver’s side rims may have extremely small scratches and nicks, but no rash or dents. The windshield has one small ~ 1mm defect that was repaired.
INTERIOR: The interior is almost perfect. There are a few scattered nicks along the inferior aspect of the driver's side door cubby, but the center console looks almost perfect with no wear demonstrated on any of the buttons. The gear shifter has some leather wear around the superior aspect. Both seats and side bolters look great without any discoloration and minimal wear.

Maintenance:
I don't have the service records from the original owner, but I called the dealership where it was originally sold, Bob Moore Porsche, and although they would not send me hard copies, they confirmed the vehicle had its 20K service as well as a RMS repair under warranty. I do have the service records from the 2nd owner which show that the car had its 40K service at 39,416 miles at Park Place Porsche and also had the battery replaced at that time. The documentation also mentions that the alternator cable and flywheel had been replaced January 2009 as part of the CPO process. At that time the previous owner told the dealership to go ahead and replace the clutch during the flywheel replacement, but when they opened the case it still had plenty of life left. This was at approximately 30,000 miles and the clutch still feels strong. I had a PPI when I purchased the vehicle at Park Place and they noticed a slow leak out of the water pump which was replaced under the now expired CPO warranty. In the last month I have performed an oil and filter change as well as a brake fluid flush. I unraveled the oil filter and did not see any metal bits present. I was also going to replace the brake pads, but they have plenty of life left. There is approximately 5/32" left on all four Michelin Pilot Sport Tires.

During the PPI, the DME report came back with over-revs in ranges 1-6. I discussed these on threads here and rennlist.

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...ts-needed.html
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-2005-c2s.html

Below are the 997's DME Overspeed ranges
Range 1-RPM Range 7,300-7,500
Range 2-RPM Range 7,500-7,700
Range 3-RPM Range 7,700-7,900
Range 4-RPM Range 7,900-8,400
Range 5-RPM Range 8,400-9,500
Range 6-RPM Range 9,500-11,000

Below is this vehicle's ignitions and the approximate mileage. The car was cpo'ed at 30,875 miles

* Range 1 5886 @ 34,433 miles
* Range 2 501 @ 29,400 miles
* Range 3 46 @ 26,267 miles
* Range 4 7 @ 26,267 miles
* Range 5 2 @ 26,267 miles
* Range 6 1 @ 24,120 miles

The number at each level represents an engine ignition. There are three ignitions per revolution.

My understanding is that level 1 ignitions represent bumping the rev limiter and that levels 2 and 3 represent the same thing with forward momentum propelling the RPM's further. At 3 ignitions per revolution and using the lower end of the ranges on the overspeed chart we can calculate approx 16-17 seconds at Range 1 (7300RPM), 1-2 seconds at 2 (7500 RPM), and 0.1 seconds at 3 (7700 RPM)

Levels 4-6 are what concerns most people. It seems that there were 2 separate events, both prior to the CPO process and the 2nd owner. Both over-revs were approximately 20,000 miles ago and lasted hundredths of a second. If you do the math there was 1 ignition at range 6 which is at or greater than 9500 revolutions per minute. At the lower range rate you're doing approximately 158 revolutions a second (9500/60=158) which would be 474 ignitions per second (158X3) which would translate to 1/474's of a second at range 6. Search the board and there are some who say that they had "1's" across ranges 3-6 and it was assumed that this may have been a default and that it did not truly represent over-revs.

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...preciated.html

You could work out the range 4-5 the same way except using the lower range scale and these look more legitimate. Range 5 occurred in 1/23rd's of a second and Range 4 occurred in 1/6th's of a second. (Sorry for the math, but I just wanted to emphasize how quick these over-revs occurred) If you search you’ll find people on both sides of the fence about this topic. I'm fairly risk averse hence the research on understanding the DME above. In the end I believed that that this vehicle represented a low risk for failure given the short duration and the length of "problem free" time from the original over-revs. The car’s been doing great since then. In the end, whether or not you believe these over-revs will lead to problems further down the road is up to your individual risk tolerance. Here is one of our supermoderator's take on it which I feel is one of the best summaries.

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ml#post3268743

I would have taken pics of the minimal rock chips and bumper indention, but I couldn't get them to show up well. Honestly, the car's in great condition. The reason I mention these things is that a discerning car enthusiast might notice them and I want to have full disclosure. There has been no paint work or body work that I'm aware of and the Service Manager at Park Place Porsche felt the same way after the inspection. That being said, I have not checked this with a paint meter. I'm meticulous about my cars and take very good care of them. I hand wash and wax them almost bimonthly and cycle Menzerna, Zaino, and Pinnacle products. I've bought and sold multiple sport cars online and realize that trust is the key element of the sale. I've owned an Audi TT Roadster, Lotus Elise, Honda s2000, Porsche Boxster S, and a Porsche Cayman S and I've sold them all online in the last 10 years. I'm selling the 997 because it's a third car and I'm looking to spring on something else without the hassle of a trade in. I'm not sure what I'm looking for next though.

FAQ - PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE CONTACTING ME VIA EMAIL.
(Borrowed from MrDomo's post for his immaculate M3)
I have tried to anticipate the most important issues that might come up.

1. Please obtain your own financing if necessary. I will not carry any loans, nor accept credit cards.
2. Out of state buyers must set up their own shipping arrangements.
3. The car is paid off with Title in Hand
4. I reserve the right to refuse a test drive. Test drives will be accompanied by the seller.
5. Car will be shown by appointment only in Houston, TX. I will not drive out of my way to show it.
6. A $500 Deposit will hold the car for 5 days, after that it is non-refundable. This window is necessary as deposits in past have turned from I need 3 days to I need 3 months to come up with the cash. This epidemic essentially pushes out potential buyers. The rest of the money needs to be wired via ACH or has to clear my credit union before the title is given.
9. Please, no joy riders or daydreamers. SERIOUS buyers only. Pre-approved/cash customers.

PRICE IS NON-NEGOTIABLE AT THIS TIME. DO NOT CONTACT ME TO OFFER ME LESS. IF THE CURRENT MARKET DOESN'T SUPPORT MY PRICE I WILL LOWER IT IN THE FUTURE. I AM IN NO RUSH TO SELL.

Thanks HRD SEL. I also tried to clarify some of the math on the over-revs on the DME. I'm a physician not an engineer by trade, but I think my calculations are correct. I welcome any other thoughts or questions however.

I had my PPI at Park Place Porsche in Dallas, TX where I purchased the vehicle. With regards to the Houston area, I've heard Mike Callas at Rennsport in Sealy, Tx is the last word in Porsches around here. Other than him, it's probably a toss up among the local Porsche dealerships and places like Eurocar Werks, Motorwerks, etc...
