Brake light not working, what could be wrong?
Hi
I have a 2006 C2 and the left brake light has gone out. I get a nice warning on the dash every time I start the car. I removed the old light and it looks fine. Went to pep boys and found a replacement. After installing the new light the brake still isn't working. I'm still getting a warning on the dash.
Is there something I have to do to tell the computer that the light has been replaced?
Any ideas what might be going on here? Like I said the old light didn't look like it was broken. The filament was still intact.
Thanks, Derek

A quick test to start would be swap assemblies left to right (obviously just plugging in ) and see if problem travels (been some time since I've pulled mine but fairly certain plug is universal)...
If it DOES - bulb or assembly is problem... (you can then swap bulbs and if it does not travel back issue is assembly whereby I would start w/ using contact cleaner on sockets and make sure no loose connections, etc.
If it does NOT then issue is prior to assembly/bulb and in wiring or [likely] switch at top of brake pedal. Switch is a simple system and < $20 DIY but try hitting with compressed air and/or contact cleaner first and watch to see how the plunger moves upon brake pedal activation.
Good luck and let us know what you find

I am having the same problem with my 2006 997 Cabriolet. The left brake light is not functioning correctly. The bulb is fine, i put in the bulb and it lights up with the lights on, but when I lock it into place it turns off or goes faint. If I push on the brake the brake filament may light up but then the bulb will not work after the brake is let off.
Did you find a problem in the wiring or socket? What was your fix if you remember?
Thanks,
Rich
