2016 DB9 GT or 2nd gen Vanquish to buy as forever GT
Hello Gents and Ladies
As title says. Which one to get as a last V12 GT?
I'm looking to ad another Aston to my stable. Always thought that I'd get a Vanquish as my last big purchase car for my forever to keep as a GT. Been reading and searching....
I like either one but Vanquish has a special place being ultimate GT as last of the VH platform car. But given the price difference and 2016 DB9 GT being so special as lot of options comes included....
If you own one or the other, give me your personal opinion about it, should I spend more to get the carbon body vanquish or save 25% or more go for 16 DB9 GT if I can find the right specs.
Please give me pros and cons.
I'm not into performance numbers 0-60 or anything like that, I want to keep it for long weekend drives with spouse.
Keep in mind that I still have my my 13 V8 manual Vantage for occasional spirited drives in local canyons.
If you have either one looking to sell, please let me know.
Thanks
A.P.

My Opinion: I have a 2011 V8 Vantage (currently for sale) and a 2016 V12S. The V12S is just 'special' in so many ways and rare. I paid a premium price for the V12S because it had two years Timeless Warranty (piece of mind) and it had the updated interior with Factory Apple Car Play upgrade. The V8 Vantages have plummeted in value, while the V12S increased in value over the past few years and will likely continue to do so. This comparison applies to the DB9 and 2nd gen Vanquish. The prices of the Vanquish are stupid low right now - but they are rare and a far superior car to the DB9 for not much difference. To me it was the size that did it - the Vanquish for me just too big, otherwise the V12S and the Vanquish prices are more likely to hold and increase in value over time. A buddy had a Vanquish with the factory titanium exhaust - best sounding Aston ever.
I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. I'd enjoyed my 2006 DB9 for more than 12 years and thought that if the right car came along I'd make one last switch.
My shopping list (in order):
1. DB9 GT Coupe
2. 2010-2012 DBS Coupe (auto)
3. 2014 Vanquish Coupe
It turns out that list is also in order of rarity, with DB9 GT Coupes being really scarce.
And then a 2016 Vanquish Volante Carbon White Edition became available locally. I was able to make a deal I was happy with and I've never regretted it.
They're all beautiful cars from the outside but I think the DB9 GT is the prettiest of the bunch; it's such a well evolved and pure minimalist design. The Vanquish is the nicest from the inside.
I like the 8 speed in the Vanquish. It shifts pretty quickly and gets incredible gas mileage on the highway.

For a used car, the price difference for what you get on the Vanquish makes it a better relative value. Personally, I like the looks of the DB9 GT better but would side towards the Vanquish. Slightly more interior and trunk space.
I forgot to mention that I’ve test-driven a Vanquish a couple of times, and it really felt like a special car. Recently I also drove a 2015 DB9, and it felt somewhat similar, (not sure if 2016 GT model is any different ) although it was just a very short drive around the block. I’d love to hear input from current owners of either model.
From what I understand, 2015+ Vanquishes use the 8-speed transmission, while the DB9 and the 2014 Vanquish both use the same 6-speed transmission. Looking at online listings, I’m seeing 2016 DB9 GTs (there aren’t many of them) selling for under $90K, and 2014 Vanquishes in a similar price range. However, 2015+ Vanquish prices seem to jump about 15–20%, depending on mileage and options/colors.
Also, it looks like coupes are priced lower than Volantes, which actually works well for me since I’m specifically looking for a coupe.

Anything "forever", I always go for the top model. Vanquish was the top model.
But just know that I'm also akin to the DB9 GT, I love the refreshed front end and the classic look of the back. But Vanquish still wins for me.

Back to the topic:
DB9 GT is a great looking car. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. For that type of car, an 8 speed Vanquish would be my pick but I reckon I’d prefer a DB9 GT over a 6 speed Vanquish. Overall I think it would mainly come down to colour choice and the quality of the previous owner(s).
I currently have my 2016 Vanquish listed for sale in the forum marketplace. The only reason for selling is because my health has failed to the point that I can’t take care of it like I want to. It is the fifth Aston that have had. The Vantage is a very high quality sports car. The Vanquish is in my opinion one of the best looking cars ever made. Being the flagship car it nicer on just about every point. I loved my Vantages but the Vanquish is just on another level. I have had a Rolls Royce, a Ferrari, Porsches and Bentleys and the quality of the Vanquish surpass them all. It always gets positive comments everywhere we take.it. I looked at the DB9 GT when I was looking at the Vanquish. I know that I made the right choice when getting the Vanquish.
that's the only thing that keeps me away from DB9 GT or pre 2015 vanquish, which is pretty hefty price jumps. There are lot of great deals for 2014 Vanquish, some under 90K ......

Your Vanquish is stunning but bit out of my price range. Wish I could afford yours, it would of been great to get it from another owner from forum. good luck.
