Question Registering a used car in California - Follow up

Following up the post about registering a used car in California, I have a slightly different situation: what about a 30-year old gray market car? I have a 1979 Porsche 911SC, which originally came into the US 28 years ago as a gray market import from Germany. The car has been registered in New Jersey and Texas since then. Can I bring it with me to California? Does the car have to pass a regular smog test? (It did in NJ, and passed without problems. It no longer has to pass one in TX). Doe it have to have all the original smog equipment (i.e. air pump)? Thanks for any feedback.
