997tt + Hoosier r6
997tt + Hoosier r6
Im going to be running my 1st DE with the new tires coming up in may.
Does anyone have any guidelines as to where to start out with tire pressures?
This will be my first event on r6's.
Thanks,
Niels

Buy a $100-140 probe-type pyrometer -and make sure you stick it all the way into the tire. It's a great tuning tool that should be in your tool box with your tire pressure gauge.
36-42psi is a broad range but your ideal pressure should be somewhere in there. Try 34psi for a cold morning and see where they come in at and go from there.
What's your alignment and wheel/tire size?

On my car, which is a little lighter than a TT, 27 lbs. front and 28 lbs. rear cold gets me to 36 front and 38 rear hot. With R6's I run 235/35 x 19 front and 315/30 x 19 rear, -3 camber front and -2.4 camber rear. You'll have to experiment a bit
Will vary with how hard you are driving. I ran R6 on a 96tt last season and started at 30 cold on left side and 31 cold on right side for Road Atlanta. Everything usually ended up right around 40 hot which seemed to work well for me.
I echo what stuntman said about a pyrometer. the 3 temps across each tire will tell you about inflation and camber correctness and can give clues as to whether you are running too much toe-in in front.
The Hoosier website used to have a tire care PDF that gives some info about break-in and tire presures. Their weight/pressure guidelines are not good for heavier cars. They would've had me starting at 35-36 lbs. or something like that and the tires would have built too much pressure. I never tried.
