Sebring PCA Qualifying In-Car 2:11.8

Well here is the hot lap from qualifying that I promised to post. There were 60+ cars in our run group however most of the cars were off the track when I ran this lap.

You'll notice some wheel spin out of a few corners, I was running Dunlop slicks, 235's & 280's. I'll have wider wheels/tires for the next event.

The turbo work's great at the long 3.7 mile track of Sebring, we'll have to see if the same holds true at a tighter track like Mid-Ohio in May.

Thanks again for the engine and chassis tuning from GIAC, Evolution Motorsports, and Moton Shocks.

Thanks No Substitute.

I wish some of you fellow 6speeder's would join me in doing the same with your street car's. The 996 TT makes a great track/race car with just a little suspension work, a 500 lb. diet, and the Evo/GIAC stage 3 package.

MikeSmith/Fat 911,

The car still has AWD and weighs in at 2950 with roll cage.

I've been following another TT that's raced for the the last few year's in WC and formerely in Grand-Am and they've found the engine to be extremely reliable. I'll upgrade the oil pump to a 3R if I ever have to dig into the engine. I'm looking into additional engine/trans oil cooling as well.

I'll keep you posted if any problems occur...

The Turbo is a blast to race and pulls like a freight train right up to 6500. I have a much greater appreciation for this car now more than ever.

Rick:

Awesome vid. Thanks.

Boy is your car sprung stiff! Also, you were having a fair amount of trouble getting the power down. Is this why you seemed to pull low rpm's through the second turn?

Boy does that look like fun.

do you think that if you started w/ a gr2 2-wheel-drive platform you could be quicker??......or would that have put you in a totally different, un-competitive class?
love the car, BTW!

Tim, I tried coming out of the tighter corner's in second gear and had quite a bit of wheelspin when the boost came in. I found keeping it in 3rd worked best with the overall setup I had on the car. I'm going with wider tires and wheels for the next go round.

JakeMate, I'll post a race lap later which should be a little more exciting. Glad you liked it!

gt2next, the GT2 would have been easier to start with, better power, brakes, aero, wieght, etc. I just kept moving my street TT further and further towards where it ended up.

Currently GT2's are not able to race in World Challenge however the TT's are. I'm planning on running a few WC races along with PCA events.

Yeah but the brake compound squeals way too much for the street. I take it out for a test run once a month whether it needs it or not.

Carbonissimo thanks!

Since my speedo is disconnected it's hard to tell. I believe at max rpm in 5th it's 155-157, so I'd have to say 160+ since I'm in 6th for a little while.

Rick,
Great video. Thanks for posting it. I am very interested in knowing what wheel/tire sizes you plan to go with next time. Would you mind posting this information and your reaction to them? And, are you going to stick (no pun intended!) with Dunlop slicks? This is the tire I was thinking of going with on my '02 TT too.
