red944,

It has never bothered me otherwise I would have never posted it in the first place. :) Later I took the GT2 S off and replaced it with "cjv/ s car go." The car has really changed alot over time.

I remember when you initially posted those. I followed this thread from funcars to rennlist and finally to 6speed. I really think this thread alone has alot to do with the success of 6speed. Many people came over to this site to follow the thread.

The final pistons are due to be shipped to the coater on May 10th. You saw the mock up in the above pic. We have settled on a compression ratio 9.2-1. We would have liked to go with a lower compression for more boost and power, however we decided not to sacrifice the response and streetability in the lower rpm range.

S Car Go will now turn their attention to the heads. We may have to make still another set of valves. The last set of Manley/Forrea valves made were based on the GT3 Cup solid lifter dimensions and it appears they are approximately 2-3 mm short for the new hydralic lifter set up. We are looking into using caps. One other possible problem. These valves are capable of withstanding nitro and high boost. When we had the last set made I believe both manufacturers told us the length was the longest valve length available for the stem diameter we were using for this type of exotic metal valve. Should have more information on this shortly.

We still expect KA to be finished by July 4th. :)

July 4th eh:)? Ikes... with all that's still left to do in terms of putting it back together, then dialing it in and tuning, I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya but they've got their work cut out:(

Hey I just noticed from the first few pics that you had the RuF exhaust back then! Damn that was a long time ago... I forgot how good/bad that was in terms of perf...

Alex,

Do you have any idea how many times we have assembled and disassembled a 996tt motor? With all the practice S Car Go Racing has, they can easily assemble one in three days and install in two more. :D As for the tuning, we are told they want the car for two-three weeks. We expect to have all the parts ready for assembly by the third week of May.

Yes, a long time ago. Those pics came from red944. I didn't have any of them.

As for the Ruf exhaust, it was right behind the first 70 mm Europipe. We had tried EVO, Fabspeed, B&B, Ruf and Europipe.

Alex, back then 500 rwhp was a real wild street motor.:)

500rwhp> hehe.. I think I could make that nowadays on 87 ocante;)

For real though, I remember those days. Seems like not so long ago actually. I forgot that Europipe makes that 70mm (stage 1)... I doubt they'd sell anywhere near as many as the 80mm ones. My only problem with all these exhaust, the ones that sound the best, is that they weigh too darn much. I saved 60 pounds with mine lol...

Heheh well it's good practise for when one has to do other 996tt motors I guess;) Maybe it's like a LEGO set that they're getting to know really well then...

I'll keep my fingers crossed. We'll have to set up a drag strip day for us bay area guys/girls (that means YOU Robyn!).

Alex,

I believe mine are a little larger than 80 mm. :o To my knowledge Stef and Herman built only one set and that was for KA. :D

As for weight, there is a point where street crosses into race and I have no dilusions of being or wanting to be race. I am talking about a level of comfort now. :D

Yeps I remember yours is a one off or something;) I hear you on the weight thing. I think at some point I may end up saying, screw those 70 pounds and getting an exhaust like the one you have which does not resonate... Some day...

Alex,

I just had a sobering experience. My oldest boy will be graduating from UCSB this year. I let him use my Dinan M3 during his last quarter. He called today and said he received a ticket in downtown Santa Barbara for a "modified exhaust." I called Dinan and asked what they knew about their exhaust being too loud. They said this would be a first. If this exhaust is too loud then most of the 996tt's would fail too. I told him to just take it to the inspection station as I believe this Sheriff's Deputy is a little off base.

Congradulations to your son. may I ask what he will be getting his degree in?

One of my firends use to always get fix it tickets for his exhaust in his 95 black M3. But his brother had a 98 black M3 with stock exhaust. So what he would do is just switch the plates drive to the police station be like "hey look i got it fixed" then drive home and switch the plates again.

Im not sure what year your M3 is but if you want I can ask my friend if he still has his stock exhaust laying if your interested in it.

A modified exhaust ticket is pretty rare i think. If i remember corectly i read somewhere that the exhaust cant be louder then 96 dB and a maximum outlet diameter of 3". but dont quote me on this.
