Well, it's technically not a slush box, but computer-actuated dual-clutch box, so I think you're safe .

well that's a reason that i stay away from cars such as EVOs and STIs. I am a boy but don't want to be called a boy racer. I personally think the R32 is a tad farther from that stereotype

glad you liked it how is the dsg box, is it really so superfast?
and about the boy racer image, it's quite true here in sweden, but not for the gti & r32. it's more the other models that's being tuned ridiculously (sp?) and just loooks stupid.
enjoy your car and drive safe man!

The new ones are noticeably heavier in terms of the handling. The MKIV R32 felt like a go-cart, where as this one feels more like a car (downside in my opinion). The interior of this car is definitely nicer, but VW should have upped it 50 horsepower instead of 10(?) because I feel it to be a bit underpowered. Also, a 6 speed gearbox should have been optional. The DSG is a great transmission, leagues beyond BMW's SMG but some prefer manual.

The MKIV R32 had a vacuum valve that opened an exhaust flapper making the car much louder at 3000 RPM, the MKV seems to have the same exhaust tone and volume, just no "quiet time" valve.

Bronto the DSG really is superfast. but it's sluggish if your in traffic in automode and going slow then you decide to punch it. i wish it was a manual.

and Jeremy you are right it is too heavy but the interior, fit and finish, and overall drive quality is much better than the MKIV. I had an MKIV GTI and it was scary at top speeds. The MKV is much more solid. and the exhaust is pretty quiet if you don't step on the accelaration too hard

Nice car.

Transmission decent?

I've heard good and bad impressions about the DSG.

Congradulations its a very nice car, enjoy it in good health. I like the GTi too its quiet fast, I gave it a test drive a while back and was very impressed with the performance for a small car.
