Road Force Balance Question
Road Force Balance Question
I just bought a set of used Champion 3pc RG5.
There was some vibration at high speed when I drove on them for the first time. I took the car to the tire shop down the street. They road force balanced the tires. One of the wheels got an error....
Load Force .055 Rim limited exceeded
(other reading were .009, .011 and .028 - no errors)
The car vibrates over 70mph (in the steering wheel) and gets worse as speed increases.
What does this error mean? They thought that remounting the tire may work as the hard spot on the tire and wheel may be matching up. I didnt really get a good answer.
The rims appear to be straight when spun.
Any help?
Thanks.

They just need to be high speed balanced usually that seems to always fix the problem. Any higher end wheel shop should have one. The ones at the normally shop is only good till about 50 or so.
Like all things not all shops can deliver the quality that is required, a Hunter 9700 can do the job but you need skill and experience. It sounded like the shop might have match mounted the tire which goes a long way to get the load force numbers down however there are many more reasons including the tires, " the tire shop down the street " is not going to get the job done you need to find a local shop in your area that specializes in setting up cars to track and street use that can find a solution to your problem by eliminating the known and unknown factors that is causing the vibration problems.
problem solved
I took the car to the Porsche dealer (If I told you why I didnt do this first it would be another thread)
They had the same issues as the other shop but came up with the solution within the day...a bad tire. They did several things...matched the rim, remounted the tire, moved the tire around, etc. In the end they just said it was a bad tire.
Ill find out tomorrow when the Porsche dealer has it done.
Thanks for the replies!

That is exactly what I was going to suggest.
Any balance problems I have had were tire related.
good going
