Tire Rack packaging kit
Tire Rack packaging kit
For those that sell and ship wheel/tire sets, I was recently informed of a great option for packaging.
Tire Rack sells a shipping kit consisting of 8 cardboard rounds, foam sheets, and tape to safely package up your wheel sets. It saves money on buying huge boxes, is much easier to pack, and probably saves on shipping costs as the overall size of the shipment is smaller than conventional boxes.
Purchased it for $14.xx shipped to my door. Just call Tire Rack, ask for customer service and purchase the wheel shipping kit. Just specify size of the wheels and VOILA!
Only deficiency in the kit is the one roll of included tape isn't nearly enough to package 4 wheels. So I had to supplement with a roll of plastic packaging 'saran' wrap which I was able to use and you can get at Harbor Freight, Walmart or any packaging store for about $8-10 roll and one more roll of packaging tape.
Recently sent my turbo wheels to member lowpue who received them safe and sound today

Sweet thanks for the tip! I shipped out my 3 of my iforged wheels in a box but i didnt have one for the 4th wheel so i cut up some cardboard and did the same thing you did. This time i can just order it from tirerack and save myself the hassle lol.
I deflated the tires a bit to save on weight though =)

Don't think it's officially on the site which is why you have to call customer service to get a set. Think they're used primarily for wheel/tire returns.
Here's a PDF off the website showing you how it works.

I just shipped my "lobster forks" to Canada yesterday by FedEx. I've bought several sets of wheels from Tire Rack over the years, and I always kept the cardboard discs, so I had about 16 of them in my garage. All I did to pack the wheels wass to tape the discs to each side of the wheels with duct tape in an X pattern and affix the shipping labels. I had talked to Damon at Tire Rack about this first, and he thought it would be fine. I'll let the board know when the wheels arrive in Calgary, hopefully safe and sound . . .
Just call me if you need it. I'm always happy to help my forum guys out.
