F140 GA V12

Internally coded with more letters and numbers than an Italian shipping yard, the 6.5L V12 shoots towards the horizon line with just under 800bhp. The power plant is shared with the F12 Berlinetta. Although the displacement has been increased. Peak torque is rated at 530 lb-ft and comes in at a massive 7,000rpm. In this sense, the V12 has been tuned to be exciting and “peaky” by delivering power later in the rev range than its sister car. Ferrari has made a commitment to keeping the car naturally aspirated which is pretty cool to see in a non-stop era of turbocharging.

Performance All Day

For a front engine, rear-wheel-drive car, the 812 earns the name Superfast by sprinting to 60 in 2.8 seconds, but that’s not really what’s most impressive. The quarter-mile has always been a better tell of outright performance and this rocket has that covered too—it comes up in a ridiculously quick 10.4 seconds at 138.6mph. This is absurdly rapid even by Ferrari standards. La Ferrari does it in 9.7, so this car isn’t that far off one of the baddest hypercars on earth.

More than Straight Lines

Obviously, this car has to handle well. Which makes it no surprise that the lap time around Fiorano is just as impressive. Ferrari's private test track was created in 1972 and serves as the proving ground for every model that leaves through the factory doors. A 599XX is good for a 1:16.000 and the previously mentioned La Ferrari cuts a 1:19.700 with the outright lap record being held by Schumacher in the F2004 (a staggering 55.999-second lap!). Again, the Superfast shows us exactly what it can do by smashing the clock with an impressive 1:21.500. For any GT car, this is a tremendous feat that requires a strong chassis, tires that hold the road, and a little aerodynamic trickery. Fortunately, the 812 has it all.

Interior as Usual

Inside the stunning curves of the exterior, you won’t find a traditional supercar interior full of buttons and gaudy leather. The name of the game is function here with a center-focused tachometer that stares the driver down, egging you on at every chance to wind the 6.5L engine out to redline. Steering wheel buttons have been laid out in a way to encourage ease of use and great ergonomics. You won’t find tons of buttons here to distract you or a million switches to play with. This car is all business and all about the driving experience.

Moving in the Right Direction

Ferrari has really stepped up their game with this 812 and created a car that is both drop-dead gorgeous and a serious track weapon. At $335,000, it certainly isn’t cheap, but one drive is all it takes to remind owners that it's money well spent. Prestige, power, and performance are only 3 words that describe what this car is capable of—neck-snapping velocity another. With a top speed of 211mph, this Ferrari is truly deserving of the name it bears: Superfast.
