Ferrari Leads on Social Networks, Celebration Video Could be Way Better

Ferrari just passed the 8,000,000 followers mark on Facebook, and to celebrate, the company posted this video of a 458 drifting and doing donuts. And it could have been brilliant—but it isn’t. While it might seem silly to critique a video showing one of the world’s finest sports cars being driven like it’s stolen, I’m going to do it anyway.

For a company that leads on social networks—“Ferrari leads on social networks” is the title of the clip—Maranello hasn’t learned much from YouTube. Because when you have a visual of a 458 turning donuts and an engine note which makes Luciano Pavarotti sound like that squeaky teenager from “The Simpsons,” you don’t need “epic” music in the background. Ferrari, epic music is for stupid crap like this!

And another thing. You don’t need a jump cut every 1/10th of  a second! This crack-addled camera style nearly ruined the Quantum of Solace opening—give me a second to get some perspective! A single crane shot of the Italian Stallion spelling out 8,000,000 in one take, with no music, would have been magnificent. You don’t have to be Stanley Kubrick to figure that out.

Am I crazy? Watch the video and let me know.
