We’re Happy for the V12 Under the Hood, but Not the Cheesy Superfast Name

No, it’s not that Ferrari unveiled their new V12 flagship prancing horse in a hurry, but the name of the car. Yes, it’s called the Superfast. Or, more precisely, the Ferrari 812 Superfast.

We’ve had the Superamerica, the Barchetta, the Testarossa, and several other names that are better suited for handguns or espresso machines than exotic Italian cars. But, we still love them nonetheless, especially when they feature naturally-aspirated V12 engines with 789 horsepower.

According to Ferrari, the 812 Superfast is the new benchmark in the mid-front-engined sports car segment. They claim that such combination of engine layout, displacement, and horsepower has never been featured in a production vehicle before. Furthermore, the 6.5 liter engine is the same one as in the previous F12 Berlinetta, which as you may know Jeremy Clarkson said, “it was just too damn fast.” Luckily, that’s a good problem to have when you drop $400k on a car.

As it’s the case with most modern Ferraris, the 812 features active aero flaps to help it glue to the road at speed. An electronic power steering system (EPS) is also a first for a road-going Ferrari, and is supposed to work in perfect harmony with other electronic chassis, suspension and brake assists.

The interior has also been refreshed with a new dashboard, materials, and several more customization options for owners. To commemorate Maranello’s 70th anniversary, the vehicle you see pictured here is displayed in Rosso Settanta, which was the hue of choice for many of Ferrari’s first machines.

The 812 Superfast will make its official debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in early March.
