Man Builds Next-Gen 959 out of 997 Turbo
Porsche probably isn’t going to build a successor to the 959. Why would they? It was a car built for the purpose of rallying, and, destroying all other sports cars on the planet at the time. It should suffice to say that it’s legendary. Porsche probably has no intention of sullying one of their greatest hits with a sequel (the upcoming 918 non-withstanding). That doesn’t mean that other people feel the same way, of course.

One such man is Japanese Porsche enthusiast Takeshi Kitano. He loves the 959. He loved it so much that he did what Porsche wouldnt, and built an updated version of the 959 super car for his own purposes. The result is… divisive.

He calls it the 979K. The car was a 997 Turbo before being reworked into the second coming of the 959. Calling it a straight successor might be a little bit generous. It’s more like the 959’s twice removed step brother with slight physical abnormality. From most the most part it looks fine, until you catch it at an odd angle. Then suddenly it becomes a weird wannabe with an ugly rear bumper.

What do you think? Is it a travesty or a triumph? Join the discussion in the forums!
