The world of hypercars has its limits. Very few companies actually have the capital to make a true hypercar, even though countless companies still try and fail each year. You hear of vaporware every time you hear about a new company setting out to set the world on fire with its 9 billion horsepower hypercar.

Inevitably, the car never reaches fruition and that’s the last time we hear about it. The world of sportscars is a bit different though. Smaller companies tend to make good on the promises they set out to achieve. Manufacturers’ like Ariel, KTM, Local Motors, Morgan, and a few others.

That’s why when Dallara, manufacturers of all things racecar, announced they were setting up to build a street legal sportscar, I am inclined to believe they have the fortitude to achieve it.

Right now the plan is simple; lightweight through the extensive use of carbon fiber, and low center of gravity to keep handling optimal, essentially the company’s bread and butter.

The target for the weight is around 1900 lbs full loaded, and with a motor pumping out 300 hp.  The motor while not confirmed yet, will likely be supplied by FIAT, who Dallara worked with on the 4C project.

Little other details abound on the proposed car, but Dallara is committed to a 2017 launch date which means look for the car to make a concept debut around the 2016 Auto Show season. Inside sources also claim that the company wants to shoot for the price to be around $107,000 and limited to 100 cars total.

That last bit of information makes it much more plausible for the company to achieve. Low production for an introductory model is key to initial success. It doesn’t cost as much, and it has the ability to show investors the company is able to meet its commitments. I have high hopes for this little car.
