- Car is driven hard and was producing ~ 700 HP for a few years
- I met Bryant through LuisGT3 this summer and we discussed an engine build
- Bryant wanted to push the engine further before we started the big project
- I advised him the pitfalls of pushing this engine beyond the 700 HP mark and he was well aware of the potential damage that could occur
- He agreed to build the engine with us but before we started the project, he wanted to push his stock engine further.
- It went against my better judgment to push it, but since we already agreed to build the engine I went with it. Bryant was well aware of the consequences and was in no way holding me liable, so I was more curious than anything else.
- We installed GT30 turbos, our intercoolers, our headers, our complete fuel system and I flew to MN to tune the car. We made some good power but, I had a feeling that it would be short lived - especially since I knew that this car was no garage queen and he would be pushing it hard.
- Fast forward to last week - my theories and years of experience with these engines proved correct once again and I am glad it was not the worst case scenario.
Todd,

Any idea how much torque it was making at max boost with the 30's? I'm guessing the torque had more to do with that rod bending/cracking than the peak HP or boost pressure did. Thanks.

I am not sure but I am sure Byrant will chime in. Car was making ~680 wheel HP on a dynojet. I dont know how this number compares to our Mustang dyno but I know ours is more conserative.

I am not sure on the exact TQ number. I do know that it was less than the HP maybe ~ 650. We were running about 1.3 to 1.4 bar with race gas. The turbos were not a true GT30. They were GT30 internals built into a K24 hot housing which has exhaust flow limitations.

Slosso, you lucky sob. Get that horseshoe outta your **** bro! And based on what I have seen with my very own eyes on another motor "built" by a certain "tuner," my money is on PRIOR to EVOMS.

When you say 700 are you talking wheel or crank power numbers?

It would be interesting to put that puppy in a vice and side load it a bit, see if it lets go easily!

Any signs of detonation on the pistons? What sorts of RPMs did it turn? RPMs put exponential stress on the rods and ought to be the most dangerous. Any bearings look rough?

I don't suppose you guys have considered some sort of trade-in program where folks could ship running motors and be sent back some sort of crate motor with beefed rods andnew bearings etc? Some sort of program like this might be pretty popular and perhaps some savings in bulk purchase of parts could be had? I'd imagine something like this for lightly worked heads and some cams would also be quite popular if the heads are much of a restriction...

Good idea?

I know Bryant and can tell you this much:
He did not buy the car new.
The car has seen several high perf packages and only recently saw EVOMS stuff.
He is a race gas junky and will only put in fresh race gas from a Drum.
He is a maniac about not over revving his motors and also about proper warm up.
He is fanatical about being the fastest at all costs...LOL !
The car has been well cared for and see lots of pulls thru 3rd, 4th and 5th.
The Car has done very, very few hard launches from a so called "DIG" as the mustang
crowd likes to say.
Congrats on the big build at the present big build, leader!
Thanks for sharing the rod info.

MK

Great idea. We already have this program The only problem we have run into is the core condition. The last motor we built, the customer sent us back an engine with a rod through the case. He was shocked when we told him the condition and we later found out from the dealer that the customer knew the condition of the engine and he thought this constituted a "rebuildable core"

The rest of the engine looked OK. The rev limiter was set at 7100 RPMS. We are sending the rods out to be x-rayed and will also send one to be stress tested. Should be interesting

Very interesting, any chance you guys could post some details on this program or put something on your web site about it? I see rods, gaskets, valves, nothing about crates....

This could of been a 20K disaster...and then you start stock all over again . Call me conservative but I would rather spend money up front and do it right . Maybe this & the other blown motor recently will be a wakeup call...this isn't a honda or chevy that you can replace for 3-5 grand.

Good Job Evoms...

Does not surprise me at all ....... other than the crack. This guy was really lucky. EVO is correct, not if but when.

Being the first to bend rods on the 996tt I understand all too well.
