991 Turbo S v. R8 V10 Plus

If you were choosing among the two above, what would you have?

A 911 or a R8 V10 Plus? Not even a question, the R8 without hesitation.

Interesting. Why is that?

To me, it is much less performance and I sort of feel like the R8 needs a redesign.

I would easily choose the TTS (and did) without question.

Same here. Why would you choose the R8? Because IronMan drives one?lol

Ask the question on R8talk - you might find different responses and interestingly from many drivers who have been long term Porsche (turbo) owners.

Obviously, both great cars - the Porsche is faster and easier to drive at 10/10's on the track than the R8, but comparing them as street cars makes it a "what floats your boat" decision. The Porsche is the better driver from a clinical perspective; the Audi provides a superior "emotional" driving experience (amazing N/A engine, great sound, rarity, exotic looks etc). If you spend this kind of money on a car, it should inspire you and the r8 does that in spades.

The R8 is old and (over)due for generation 2.0 - that car will address some of the clinical aspects of its performance, probably in the same manner as Porsche did - with more electronic helpers and chassis tuning.

Have driven both and I chose the 991turbo s because r8 felt more like a luxury car and don't like the audi name.

Now, I have zero seat time in either car for a reason. I don't want to know what I'm missing. For me, I could certainly understand wanting an R8, but I would only do so after either owning 911s for a long time or adding one in addition to a 911.

.Soon I'll be trading my P-turbo for the Audi...half to stay with a manual box for the fun factor, AWD for safety and instant 0-60s and 500-550HP a 3rd requirement. Audi R8 is only sports car available now giving all three. Even the RS5 has an autobox.

When the whole Ironman thing happened, I thought "Oh great, Walter Rohrl is the face of Porsche and Robert Downey is the face of the R8". What I have come to learn is what a brilliant piece of marketing the Ironman connection is/was. I have spoke with numerous people at car get-togethers who told me that the R8 is their dream car because of that movie. And the response of people who see the R8 on the street is typically friendly, enthusiastic admiration. Compare the image that Porsche has in the movies (typically supporting the old "porcupine" joke) and compare that to the coolness of Tony Stark and you get the reason why many people of all ages really respond to the R8.

Has nothing to do about how these cars drive, but I thought I'd at pass along an observation as a long time R8 and (previous) Porsche Turbo owner.

I'd go with a Gallardo for those requirements.

and between the current R8 and a 991 TTS, I went with the tts the next-gen R8 on the other hand.. I'm not sure yet.

So in your comparison the only real advantage there (for you) is the manual because you get AWD and a MUCH better 0-60 in the TTS.

I \get it though. Some cars give a different diver involvement that some people prefer. I will be going to the Huracan next for that kind of experience. Deposit already placed.
