Official 2012 Porsche 991 911. Spy Shots, Renderings, Details, etc.
I figured I'd make an "official" thread for the 991 to have things organized.
We can keep adding/updating new information and pics here and watch the 991 progress.

The 3.4 liter entry-level Boxer engine (down from a 3.6 liter unit) has an output of 350 PS (257 kW / 345 bhp), good for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 289 km/h (180 mph). The smaller, more-efficient unit will reduce fuel-economy by 13 percent to 8.5 liters/100 km (27.7 mpg-US).
The Carrera S gets a revised 3.8 liter unit with 400 PS (294 kW / 395 bhp). The 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 4.5 seconds and a top speed is 302 km/h (188 mph). Fuel-economy will be down 14 percent to 9.1 liters/100 km (25.8 mpg-US)."

I like the proportions to this new 911. This fixed the only thing I didn't like about the current 997s.
As pointed out by 996 AD on Rennteam.
"notice the size of the window compared to 997. the roof and windshield seems lower and rear window smaller and sharper. the tail is longer but nose is shorter. design is more modern and sleek . i think 996 also had a lower windshield than 997. im only hoping for a good engine sound"
DETAILS:
-Longer and wider
EXTERIOR
-"The exterior will be defined by larger front wing pontoons which house all-LED headlights, slightly deeper side sills, and door-mounted wing mirrors, and a more significantly sculpted rear end."
INTERIOR
-"For the interior, expect more elements borrowed from the Panamera: top-spec Burmester stereos, improved sat-nav with better integration for mobile devices, and quality leather."
ENGINE
-"Under the hood Porsche will keep the same flat-six engine, but will focus on reducing both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The 3.6-liter flat-six engine will deliver up to 365bhp and 400Nm of torque for the Carrera and 415bhp and 440Nm of torque for the S version.
-The car will continue to ride on a steel-intensive platform, but several weight saving measures will allow the car to weigh 1370kg (3020 lbs) - 45kg (99 lbs) less than today's model. Porsche has also modified the engine mounting points for improved weight distribution and better handling.

Porsche will also offer both brake regeneration and stop start systems that will help reduce fuel consumption by 12%. The new Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox will also be offered. With no less than seven forward gears, the new gearbox combines the driving comfort of a converter automatic transmission with the dynamic gearshift of a sequential racing gearbox."

+1. Not exactly nausea inducing... Guess we'll see shortly just how accurate that rendering is. I still dislike the fact that the car has grown in length.

The wild speed renderings are very nice.. front end has some hints of the 918 and the rear appears to mimic what we have seen from the spy shots.

This is going to take me some getting used to. NOT a fan of the interior / Panamera-like center stack. And not a big fan of the Ferrari 360 front end. For that matter, the rear view is looking kind of ungainly.

In comparing the 997.2 and 991 profiles, it's getting too far into GT territory for my tastes. If I want at GT, I'll buy a Maserati or an AM DBS. I want a Porsche 911 to be a PORSCHE 911 sports car. Not a GT.

Tons o' buttons on the center stack. Holy crap. It's like there is one button for every indivdual task. Still, though, looking forward to seeing what Porsche can do to keep a sports car alive in this day and age of pedestrian safety, international rules and such. I do like the look of it so far.

I see it the other way round - I think the Panamera interior/dash is gorgeous and thus like the new 911 a lot ... big upgrade
