Rear struts bad, do I upgrade or not?

Rear struts bad, do I upgrade or not?
Hey all!
Got about 92k on my 2003 C4 Cab. The rear struts are shot, and seem to be the originals...
Local shop wants ~$1600 to install new OEM rears. If I do the work myself, I can save a bunch of cash and put that money towards a "better" setup... maybe?
I thought I'd would lower the car in the future, but think now is the time.
The fronts are still good, but obviously I would have to do those too if I went lower.
Anyway, I've done some quick searching and have learned a bit about Mo30, RoW, etc, and am even more confused. I know I can get new struts (Bosch) from my local parts house for around $250 each, and then might add the lower springs?
The car has ALWAYS had a VERY hard ride. Just assumed it was the nature of the C4. I don't track the car. I do drive it often with my wife and son, so a comfortable ride would be nice if possible...
Appreciate any input and advice!!
Best,
Bill

If you're carting around the family and concerned with comfort, I'd personally get the Koni kit which comes with matched springs.
Or for even more comfort and minimal lowering, I'd opt for the Eibach Pro Kit along with Koni FSD shocks. You're not gonna get more comfortable ride than this. Even more cushy than factory, but since the springs are progressive along with the progressive nature of FSD technology, it will still handle better when pushed.

Thanks Fla996tt and alpine003! If I wanted to go comfort AND lowering, which of the 4 options would you recommend? The Eibach is comfort and minimal lowering, but I'd like to drop her down an inch or so.

I did H&R Sport Springs with the stock shocks and the drop for me was perfect.
Coil overs are going to be a little harsh so you might consider the springs and Bilstein combo or sport springs and stock shocks. I can't speak to Koni.

Another question. If I am going the H&R springs route, and the current front shocks are not bad, I could just do the rear shocks, and put new springs on all 4 corners, correct?
Being a C4, it is one of those "If you are in there anyway, change it all" situations?

IMO, if the rears went and your changing to H&R springs do the fronts as well. Here is a break down on costs:
H&R Springs = $315
Billstein Sport Springs = F $305, R $213
Billstein HD Shocks = F $299, R $215
The HD shocks are basically OEM, the Sport Shocks are made to go with lowering springs, and looking at the cost difference it hardly makes sence to go the HD route, IMO.

Sounds good, I got my pricing from tire Rack. Good luck, and how about some pics of the process?

Eibach Pro Kit will get you down around an inch. If you want more than that then you should go with H&R or the Koni Sport Kit(H&R spring also used on it). H&R's have a higher spring rate so it will be geared more towards handling than comfort.

Think I've decided on a setup. Thoughts?
H&R 29466-2 Sport Spring set for all 4 corners.
Bilstein 22-052728 Twin-tube Strut Assemblies for the rear.
Bilstein 24-029940 46mm Monotube Shock Absorbers for the front.
Can get it all for ~$1378.47 shipped. Seems like a heck of a deal for new corners and a bit of lowering...!
