A way to make the rear section in a 911 a flatbed?

My dog hates the rear tunnel that divides the two seats. He is a 90 lb golden and doesn't fit in one seat and the tunnel makes it awkward and hard for him.

I was wondering if there was a way to make the rear section a full flatbed? Maybe "fill-in" the two seat bottoms completely? Or some sort of end-to-end "cover" that goes over the tunnel? Seems like a goofy question, but I would get more use out of the car if the dog could come (else I have to take the truck on trips).

When I read the title, I thought you wanted to turn your 996 into a flatbed truck. A boat upholstery shop can probably make something that will suit your need.

I have a set of custom built subwoofer housings that are made of fiberglass and completely fill in the rear seat area. They are attached to the seatbelt bolt so they can't move around. Something like that would work.

Maybe some dense foam flat on the top sculpted on the bottom to fit in the recesses like an extra-tall lower seat cushion. It would be much easier to get to the right shape than a wood enclosure, plus much easier to get in and out of the car. You could also glue some vinyl or fabric on the top to make it more durable.

Also, the rear seat backs come out pretty easily... not quite as easy as the velcro'ed in seat bottoms, but if you never are using the rear seats for human passengers, pulling them out will free up quite a bit of room back there.

Why not wrap plywood in auto carpet and shape it so you can lay on top of back seats dropped down?

Photos of custom subwoofer box - idea for flat dog bed

I've uploaded three photos which show two custom subwoofer boxes that I have which fit in the rear seat spaces. As you can see, they fill out the spaces and you could probably make something similar that could be used for your dog. I didn't make the boxes but it would seem fairly easy to make a fiberglass mold across the seat bottoms and top off with a flat section.
