K&N CAI 996 4s
I just installed the K&N CAI on my 996 4s. My question is I live in So.Cal and wanted to know do I have to remove the CAI before smoging my ride? Thanks.

Dry
I'm running the dry filter with the cover as you can see. I bet if you over oil your filter, the excess may fly onto your MAF and screw it up. I can see this happening if one doesn't follow the directions..

they work fine, but dont install out of the wrapper without blowing off the excess oil they come soaked in. i use a dry bmc filter and swap as needed. keep the kn as dry as possible before use or it can take out the maf.

flat filter in stock air box does nothing to improve over all flow compared to k/n cold kit. with stock box, you still have the resonance plug and wrap flow of the box outlet. cold air tube ends all of that and has a multiple of diameters of ability to provided clear smooth air path over stock. flat filter may be better than standard paper filter, but still loaf of bread in a box by comparison.

I like it a lot. I really wanted the Fabspeed intake but I couldn't justify spending $800.00 for a MOD that really isn't going to make a huge impact. If I want speed, I'll step up to a turbo. After the install the car does seem to breath better, and the sound is a lot more deeper around 3K rpm's.

e-gas does not change with this upgrade (no difference in throttle uptake). but it does seam to improve the low - mid-range engine response at a given throttle position. pure butt-o-meter feeling. the intake sound track is more pronounced with this system. has to be getting better air flow in than stock, as much less restrictive, but not so much that you lose mid-range torque by messing up the fuel/air ratio in the stock program.

I ran the K&N cold air intake on 2 of my 911's for several 10's of thousands of miles and never had any codes or issues with the MAF. if your worried wipe down the excess oil when taking the filter out of the sealed bag. If your worried some more let the filter dry a little bit before installing. Me personally, I have just installed right out of the box out of excitement and never had an issue.
