997.2 turbo sports mode sound
Am I going nuts or does sports mode engage a different exhaust mode somehow? Just at idle it makes a significant different just toggling between Sports mode and normal. The sounds becomes deeper and a bit louder.

There are no valves in the exhaust itself like some aftermarket "sport" exhausts. What you are hearing are changes in the engine parameters (timing, ignition parameters, etc.) that cause the idle to change.

aye and don't forget it revs/responds differently with the throttle mapping

yeah but the sound is different at the same idle rpm.

I was curious about the same thing. The exhaust note CLEARLY changes note when the sport mode is activated.

I was under the impression the exhaust changed as well. It cracks and pops on decel in sport mode. Sounds great, but significantly louder than in normal mode.

Sounds even better when you put a Sharkwerks exhaust on the car.

I have the sharkwerks muffler bypass on my car - ie no stock exhaust. And the sound still changes so it is not the exhaust as stated earlier.

The note clearly changes. I'm assuming it's a different timing map that when sport mode is activated, but I have no idea what actually changes.
