Looking to buy first Porsche!
Hello everyone,
I am looking at buying a 2009 Carrera 4s Cabriolet.
The car is in excellent condition and the price is great. It's coming from a friend so I know the car has been taken care of.
I'm not worried about the car as it is now. I was hoping to get feedback on any known issues with this model year and model. Looking to get any feedback before pulling the trigger.
My current baby is (as my username suggests) a Sapphire Grey C63 AMG. Love that car to death.
Looking forward to joining the ranks of Porschephiles.

cool car and nothin wrong with it but why an awd? adds weight and lots of parasitic loss, i'll say a regular S cab model fits better since you'e in a no snow land. If you're gettin it for a great price a c4s will make you money in the long run when it's time to sell as you can widen your audience to the snowy folks here in the NE. Happy motoring!

My advice is to get a DME report. The DME report will tell you if the engine has ever been mechanically over-revved (dropped into a low gear while going too fast). It's a non-issue for automatic (Tiptronic and PDK cars).
Any Porsche dealer or Porsche specialist can do this for you, or you can buy a professional Durametric cable (not cheap, but if you have a Porsche it's good to have one anyway). The Durametric comes in a few different flavors; the enthusiast version can only be used on 3 cars ever, the professional has no limit.

I would prefer a RWD, but I wasn't looking for a car at this time. It's just one of those deals that are too hard to pass up, so it's more of a this is the car and im not looking at anything else.

What kind of issues did early 997s have? I'm looking at 07-08 Turbos (which have mostly the same engine from the 996) and curious to know if there are any issues with these.

From what I heard from my tech, it's not 1 or 2 major issues like the IMS bearing but smaller things here and there, occurring more frequently more frequently which he said he saw ironed out in the 09 year. Of course this is just one guys option and also made sense to me, based on other owners I've talked with but YMMV.
