Selling my 2014 911 Turbo S for a 488 GTB?
It took me almost a year to convince myself in 2014 that the best choice for me was the new 991 Turbo S. I must admit that it was more of an " intellectual decision" than one coming from pure attraction and desire.
On paper, the 911 Turbo S is hard to beat. Being a fan of acceleration, amazing handling, it is difficult to fault the car, especially as a daily driver.
I however found myself spending the winter planning for various upgrades, 1st for the sound that is really un interesting, then various carbon accents, wheels, different rear spoiler, etc. all to make the car stand out more and I also planned various performance enhancements...
After all, maybe I am not the only 911 turbo s owner who has paid a significant premium to get the "top Model" and is getting really annoyed that nowadays, all new Porsches look alike and there are numerous units on the road. Yes, I want a vehicle that is more unique.
Don't get me wrong, after driving the car for 4 months last year, I really enjoyed it. It is an amazing car but at the end of the day, it is more of an intellectual appreciation for me than something that comes from the gut. A love affair...
So as I was planning to fork another 50 K on this car to make it more unique, I thought, why don't you just sell it and buy something that will make your heart really pound, the Ferrari 488 GTB!!!
I need your advise.
Thanks

A mistake?? Money aside there is only One question I have, do you plan to daily drive the 488 LOL??! If it's your weekend / fair weather play toy then there is no question... Sell the 991TTS and buy the 488.

I have a 991 TS and a 458 Spider. To me, the turbo is more of an everyday driver. Unless live in 12 month warm climates, like Cal, FL, AZ, etc., the 458 is not a daily driver. Yea, could put 4 snow on it, and would be OK. But it still gets a lot of attention. Sometimes that is OK, other times, it gets to be a bit too much. Bottom line to me, even though the TS is an exceptional handling and performance car, there is nothing like a Ferrari. Again, subjective, depending on age, shape, height, significant other; the 458 is even more comfortable for a long drive. Recommendation: If haven't driven a 458 yet, which is closest to the 488, see what you think. If driving it "only" 7 months a year in Quebec, I would go with the 488. Plus, despite what some non Ferrari owners think, the Ferrari Club of America has some pretty cool members too. Just my 2 cents.

Had a 430, then a 458, sold it in anticipation of my January 488 delivery. In the meantime, I bought a Turbo S, a Huracan and an FF, all on complete whims. After having a Viper, a Ford GT, a 430, a 458, an FF, a Z06, a ZR1, a Huracan, a Turbo S, a couple of gallardos, and logging a couple hundred miles on an Aventador doing everything from freeway cruising to tracking (the dealer was really trying to get me to buy one), i can unequivocally say; The 458 and hopefully the 488 with its turbo motor, and a little of the Ford GT are the only cars that ever felt like they had a direct connection to the pleasure center of your brain. There are times they just make you want to scream because you felt so connected to the car.

I totally get what you are saying, I test drove a 991TT and its a great DD for a car enthusiast but it could never replace my FF or any exotic for that matter . I think you will love the 488 and depending on where you live the attention and admiration can be an enjoyable part of the experience (it is for me).
Porsche has done an incredible job of creating a fascinating range of 991s but the reality is that very few tug at the heart like they use it! It really kills me because I have wanted to get back into a MT ride but with the GT3/RS that never happened - I am on the list for the GT4 but I doubt it will park in my garage (incline). Long story short going to order a 2016 Cayenne Turbo for the family and most likely just get on the 488 list, I am in no rush.

Getting delivery of my Italia in 10 days and I cannot wait. This is my temporary car until I get delivery of my 488.

What you are doing is a no-brainer.
Nothing tugs at the heart strings like an F-car.
Good luck with the 488 !

I'm late to the party but concur that nothing pulls at your heartstrings like an F car. TT is a great DD but certainly does not make you FEEL like an F1 driver every time you get behind the wheel.

I have been driving my 458 for 3 weeks now and I am totally in love.
The car is simply amazing in all aspects, it actually makes the 911 TTS so plain in comparison.
I really hope that the 488 will at least match the feeling I am getting with the 458.
Could not be more happier with my decision.

I'd think the 488 is almost the perfect car. While I adore my 430, it is pig slow compared to my modified Turbo S. The only thing I do like about the Porsche, is that you can fly under the radar and nobody looks twice as you drive by. It makes it quite a bit easier to use the car. The Ferrari, even with my old and slow one, really causes you to be in the center of attention on the road, and its not always what I'm 'going for'. Mind you, I could have avoided probably 80% of that by going with a black or grey car instead of 'arrest-me red'. But the attention is half of the experience of owning of these things. Double-edged sword I suppose.
