Need Help with third gear!

I have owned a few porsches over the years, this is my first turbo. (01 with 4k miles) Third gear seems to be acting up, very hard to find! I almost have to force it sometimes.... Any thoughts before calling the dealership for service. Thanks, Chasedrive

Re: Need Help with third gear!

Hard to find when shifting normal? When power shifting? All the time? When hot? When cold? At all temperatures?

Is it hard to get out of gear as well as being hard to put into gear? Only third gear?

Try this...

Test A
While idling after the vehicle has been warmed up completely... stop and then shift through all the gears (while stopped) first through 6th.

Which gears are hard to get into and/or out of?

Test B
Now... drive at speed through all six speeds... stop and while at idle, try going directly from neutral into third gear. Does it go into third gear easy?

Test C
Now repeat Test A, but do it while the vehicle is completely cold.
Which gears are hard to get into or out of? What is the ambient temperature you tested at?

Armed with a bit more information... we might actually be able to help you. Also... regardless... this information will be good to have for the dealership.

I am having the same problem!!
Keep in mind I have the FVD Short shift ...
Getting into third is no problem standing still...
Rarely happens under normal driving (but does somtime).
But under hard acceleration and quick shifts, somtime it JUST WILL NOT GO IN!!!
I am not sure why, this has been a recent problem (was fine after the SSK install so its not the SSk), but for some reason I have been having a problem with this lately...its only 3rd gear...seems like it moves on me .
