So, I guess, it has keyless starting and no place to put the key but your pocket -- unlike MB KeylessGo, where you can put the key in the ignition and turn it like a regular key. I like the MB approach better because on a long trip, I'd rather not have the key sitting in my pocket for hours at a time.

Yes, but the Mercedes approach gives you a place to put your key, rather then having you toss it in the console. Also, when the key is in the ignition, you can only turn off the engine by using the key, not the start/stop button on the shifter that you use when the key is in your pocket. That way, you don't walk out of the car leaving the key behind in the ignition slot.
