New Sponsor—SpeedTech Exhausts

Hi,

For those of you that may not be familiar with SpeedTech, please allow me to make a brief introduction. My name is John and I am the Owner/Founder of Automotive Speed Technologies, Inc. dba SpeedTech and I have been a member of the popular Porsche forums since the late 90’s. My user name has been “John D” or “John D II” and now, “John@SpeedTech”, as a site sponsor.

SpeedTech is a somewhat new business venture for me and I operate it along side my existing business of over 25 years. Coincidently, I started in the automotive aftermarket many years ago and subsequently transitioned into a different industry. I sold my first 911 to fund the original auto accessories manufacturing business, so I am no stranger to the Porsche marque, the 911 model or the automotive aftermarket. I will say it’s a pleasure for me to return to the automotive aftermarket, especially with a line of Porsche exhausts!

SpeedTech manufactures exhaust systems for Porsche and we currently offer exhausts for the 993, 993TT, 986 Boxster, 987 Boxster/Cayman, 996 and 996TT. Our 997 and 997TT exhausts are in the development stage and will be released soon. Our exhausts are of the highest quality—they are robot TIG welded using high quality stainless steel and completed with a mirror polished finish. You can find more detailed information and pictures on the website.

Also, we have a slightly different approach to the group buy, we offer attractive 6speed group pricing 365 days a year with no minimum number of members required in order to participate. We recognize 6speed as a great group enthusiats and as such have devised this policy.

Several members of the 996TT section of this board are satisfied Speedtech customers, as that was our first offering and you can see some of their comments regarding our customer service, quality, etc. on our testimonials web page: www.speedtechexhausts.com/page4.html

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email or PM me and I will do my best to respond as soon as possible. I will be retaining my “John D” username for day to day interaction and will use my SpeedTech username (John@SpeedTech) to announce new products, special deals, etc. If you wish to send me a message, please feel free to use whichever contact you prefer - it doesn’t matter which one you use…”John D” or “John@SpeedTech”.

It’s a pleasure to become a sponsor and be associated with this forum.

I have put together a special 6speed price of $899.00 delivered in the continental USA for the 996 mufflers. For outside the continental USA, please contact me for special freight rates.

Here is a link to our website: www.speedtechexhausts.com

Best Regards,

John

Hi John,

Do you have any video clips with sound of 996 exhaust? I want to hear it at idle, mid and WOT. Thanks!

daytrader,

Sorry, nothing yet. I'm working on it and should have something in the next month or so...If there is anyone in the Northeast (the closer to NH, the better) that is interested in trying our exhaust, I would consider a special price in exchange for the ability to video the install and subsequent sound. Feel free to PM me with any questions, if this interests any of you...

John, nice to have you here-

So if I may ask the basic question, what makes your exhaust better / different than competitors in the same price range?

Great to see up and coming small businesses on the board. Good luck!

How would you compare your exhaust with GHL? I have a set of regular GHL on my 99 C2. They defiantly add depth at WOT but I am starting to feel that they are just a tad too quiet.

I am down in Boston area and might have to make a roadtrip up to see and hopefully hear your product.

p0rsch3,

Thanks. Our 996 exhaust features very high quality stainless steel construction (superior to many I have seen), a beautiful mirror finish and is warrantied for the life of the system for the original owner against breakage, etc. It enhances throttle response and adds a more aggressive note to the exhaust tone. Since this product is in the early stages, it is going to take a few 6speed installs and feedback posts to confirm the sound qualities, fit, etc., but I can say that from the feedback I have received so far, the exhaust is well liked by those that have tried it. I was hoping to have a sound clip before announcing it here, but then decided to present it in hopes of a local 6speeder working with me to develop a video, etc. I will update the site, as more feedback and video become available. Thanks, again for the warm welcome...

Flyer007,

As a competing manufacturer, I prefer not to make direct comparisons to other manufacturers online. I think that is best left to the consumer. That said, you should consider a trip to NH and you can see our product first hand. It would be great to meet you. Do you attend of the NER PCA events?

Most decent mufflers are made from T304 or T314 stainless, and mirror polished finish is common even on cheap-o ebay mufflers.

Let me be more specific with questions:
What prompted you to make and sell mufflers for Porsches?
Do you make the actual muffler cans in-house and control the QA process from start to finish?
Is the packing stainless mesh or fiberglass?
Are mufflers test-fitted before selling to customer?
Do you use these on your own car and what is your daily driver?
What is the sound quality and noise level you are going for (vs stock)?
How are you determining the improvement in thottle response?

Not trying to give you a hard time- Just trying to find out what your product and logic behind producing them is all about. Your 996/997 mufflers look 100% identical to the Racing Dynamics mufflers I was testing out recently, so at least in this case I'd like to know how yours differ.

These appear to be IDENTICAL to the eBay exhausts, which are the chinese exhausts sold and rebranded by TopSpeed Auto, Delubozparts, Maxspeed Motorsports and many others.

SpeedTech Boxster exhaust:

eBay Delubuzparts boxster exhaust:

eBay Maxspeed Boxster exhaust:

SpeedTech Cayman exhaust:

eBay/Deluboz/TopSpeed Cayman exhaust:

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but looks like you're just selling the same chinese eBay exhausts under "SpeedTech" now.

p0rsch3,

I import containers from all over the world for my business and am very familiar with importing and I have wanted to return to the automotive aftermarket for several years. This led me to pursue and develop a relationship with an overseas exhaust factory, which I worked closely with in the design and development of a true 70mm exhaust for my personal 996TT. This was extremely enjoyable for me and a great learning experience. The final product dynoed a peak 41 HP gain on a slightly modified 996TT, offers incredible sound and is priced at a fraction of the competition. In short, it was a home run and has been both very successful and a lot of fun for me. I started the exhaust company because I thought I would enjoy it and I have...I am re-connecting with a lot of contacts from my past experience in the auto aftermarket and have some great things planned for later this year.

Our quality control is two-fold. First, the exhaust are made in a modern facility with state of the art equipment and quality control practices in place. Secondly, all exhausts are visually checked a second time at our facility prior to shipment. We have not had any quality isues to date and have sold a lot of exhaust systems. The mufflers were test fitted at the design stage, reworked until perfect and are now mass produced to those specifications. The packing is fiberglass and the fit and quality have not been a problem to date.

Yes, I use the SpeedTech 996TT Exhaust which I designed, on my own car. My daily driver (except for winter) is a Protomotive modified 700 HP 996 twin turbo, which I purchased new in 2002. It has 79,000 miles on it and about 40 1/4 mile passes...

The Speedtech 996 NA Exhaust has an aggressive sound and is considerably louder than stock. It makes the car sound very powerful. Customers have commented on improved throttle response, as well as increased power. I am working on setting up a video for informational purposes and it will be added to the website when completed - this will provide prospective buyers a chance to see and hear the exhaust in action.

^ John - Yeah, now T_H_A_T_S what i'm talking about!

All sounds super. Hearing those things gets me fired up about your product, especially knowing you are an owner/enthusiast as well.
Remember, no one here knows you from Adam or Joe Ebay guy, so this all helps. Thanks for taking the time to share some more about yourself and your company.

chaud,

Our exhausts are produced overseas by a large exhaust manufacturer that supplies others, both in the US and Europe. Their quality and equipment is superior to most of the competition, both in the US and other countries. China is known for poor quality welding - these are not made in China. You would be surprised if you knew some of the companies that use this factory. That said, some of our models are proprietary, made to our specifiations and not available to other companies, so there are some differences. SpeedTech is an alternative Porsche exhaust option that is a U.S. company (not an ebay site), with a lifetime warranty policy, a toll free number with customer support and is owned by a 25 year Porsche 911 owner/enthusiast that participates in PCA events. We understand what constitutes a good Porsche product and would not sell inferior products - the SpeedTech Exhaust products we offer are very high quality and a great value. Period. I feel we have a lot more to offer the U.S. comsumer than many of these other companies and following is only part of the reason why...take a look at our testimonials page and decide for yourself: http://www.speedtechexhausts.com/page4.html
