Secondary Air Bank 1(P0491) & 2(P0492)

Secondary Air Bank 1(P0491) & 2(P0492).
1. Did you change air filter or diverters?
2. Do you have Durametric to test and reset air pump?
3. It usually is one of the 3 check valves.
4. My symptom was cold morning start with groan from closed valve which
routes o2 to the exhaust until cats heat up.
5. It's not a fun job unless you know how to partially lower the motor by
removing boost hoses and rear bolts.

I have same problem - ordered check valves from Suncoast Porsche.
Attached is a diagram. (From RennTech and other sources)

I put in a BMC filter, and did the FVD tune.

I have diverters on there way here. Not in the car yet though.

My car sounds pretty healthy in the morning. She doesnt really groan.

Any chance these diverters will solve my CEL problem?

"Do you have Durametric to test and reset air pump?"

My mechanics might. I am not 100% sure what this is.

It does feel like I have a bit of a hesitation when I am boosting. I am hoping the diverters will help with this also.

Diverters could resolve issue after a cel reset. Have mechanic check the air pump operation and the check valves for operation. I would replace the diverters and check valves while I was in there.

You would only hear the groan at startup (first 15-30 seconds) on and off while at idle.

I don't think I am hearing this, but I could be wrong. I heard something one time like this, but the car had been sitting for about a week. When the car started it groaned for about 4secs then idled steady.

To manually start the secondary air pump you need Durametric software http://www.durametric.com/ to turn it on. To verify correct operation see the attachment in the first post.

Do you think the car is safe to drive with these codes on? Will it hurt anything?

Thats it-replace the 3 check valves-call Suncoast Porsche, they have great prices. Hearing the groan means your air pump is working but one of your check valves is not opening. It's alot of work in tight spaces so have your mechanic do it. Diverters ar easier to replace.

I drove mine for 2 weeks after resetting the cels 3 times. Take it easy and get it fixed soon-IMHO

Remember its only air to the exhaust from an air pump to help pass emissions at startup. Diverters on the other hand can cause more problems if they disintegrate into the turbo.
