The battle of Godzilla lives on! Which one of these GTRs takes the cake for being the best sports car?

There are only so many cars that have the zealous level of fandom and following as the Nissan GTR. It has made waves since its introduction in the early sixties. It is know to be a pioneering sports car, paving the way for Japanese dominance in the market throughout the decades. Here in the U.S., people dreamed of being able to own a GTR and due to a million regulations, we never even got one until the late 2000’s. However, since these cars have gotten older and older, the 25 year import law has allowed us to get more access to GTRs as the years go by.

Currently, legally one can import up to the fourth generation GTR dubbed the R33. It won’t be a while until you can legally get a fifth-generation R34, by far the most iconic of these models, but for now we are happy with what we got. However in Canada, that’s a whole different story. They do have access to the car currently and for this very reason we get the chance to see these titans of racing heritage go head to head. Thanks to our friends up north The Straight Pipes for this awesome video and let’s get into the details.

The specific cars going head to head are a 2020 Nissan GTR 50th Anniversary Edition and a 1999 Nissan Skyline GTR V-Spec. The color of both of these GTRs is none other than Bayside Blue, the most recognizable color of the R34. This 2020 edition is the first time that blue color has been offered since the 1999 R34 and we have to say it is stunning. The R34 featured in the video is not per say a stock vehicle. It has been modified to make a healthy 504 WHP and 380 WTQ. That’s a large leap from the alleged 276 HP it came from from the factory. The R35 seen in the video is making around 565 HP and 467 ft/lbs of torque in comparison, putting both of these cars on similar footing.

How do these cars actually compare? Well, in reality they don’t. The R34 is without a doubt the better car even if the R35 is faster. The styling is incredible, the RB26DETT engine is one of the finest products to ever come out of Japan, and it overall has a cool factor that really can’t be beaten by its newer brother. The video goes into detail the differences and similarities of both vehicles and we really recommend watching the whole thing for the true Godzilla experience.
