Is it that hard to have a freaking shark with laser beams coming out of its head? I mean come on people! Wait, that’s not right, there are no sharks in this story, there are however laser beams. BMW has decided that its new laser light technology, which was first shown off in its new 7-Series sedan and i8, would be good on the company’s motorcycles. According to the German manufacturer, the laser light technology that will be adapted to a handful of the company’s motorcycle lineup will have headlights that are now reach double the distance of conventional headlights. A standard halogen or LED headlight on a new motorcycle reaches somewhere in the range of 200-300 meters in front of the motorcycle. These new laser lights reach up to 600 meters.

What this does is essentially give the rider a much safer look forward when traveling at dusk or at night. Additionally, BMW debuted a new helmet that features an integrated HUD system. The HUD will be able to display speed limits, gear selection, road signs, tire pressure, current speed, fuel level and any warnings the unit might get from the road ahead. All of which is connected to your BMW motorcycle.

The future is now people, and motorcycle riding is getting safer by the minute.
