911 GT3 RS Challenge Begins: Ready, Player One
Level one of the 911 GT3 RS Challenge is a virtual battle royale.
Porsche has finally begun releasing it’s coverage of the 911 GT3 RS Challenge, and we couldn’t be more excited. Following other manufacturers footsteps, Porsche is using racing video games to find the next generation of racing driver. Over the course of five “levels,” over 12,000 entrants will be tested to see who is best, on the virtual race track, and the real one.
This is level one. Those 12,000 aspiring racers are throwing down in a virtual battle royale via Forza Motorsport 7. Their goal is to secure one of the eight top spots. Shannon McIntosh, who is an accomplished racer in both the virtual and real worlds, is our host. McIntosh takes us to the virtualized version of the famous Silverstone Circuit, where these 12,000 racers are all vying for those top spots. The virtual racers are all driving GT3 Cup race cars.
Eventually, the top eight finalists are announced. Rather amusingly, they are all denoted via their XBOX gamer tags rather than by their real names. Our finalists, shown below, represent Canada, France, Germany and Spain.
From here, these eight contenders will be flown to Gamescom, a massive gaming convention, in Germany. They will battle it out for a chance to drive a real GT3 RS on the race track and prove their mettle, and move on to the next stage. May the best player win.
