911 GT3 RS Challenge Levels Up to Top Four Contestants

By -

Level two of 911 GT3 RS Challenge has semi-finalists battling it out at Gamescom in Germany.

The next level of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS Challenge is here, and it’s a doozy. Previously, Porsche invited enthusiasts the world over to compete in a virtual challenge. Hosted in the game Forza Motorsport 7, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS Challenge saw over 12,00 entrants participate in level one. From there, just eight semi-finalists were able to advance to the next round, and now it’s here, and the pressure is higher than ever.

Dubbed “level two,” our eight semi-finalists have been flown to Germany. No, they aren’t on the race track just yet. Well, the real one, at least. Instead, these eight gamers from across the planet are throwing down in one last virtual championship race. However, this took place at Gamescom, one of the largest video game conventions in Europe.

In between the racing action, we get brief glimpses into the personalities of the candidates, and it’s rather interesting. A common criticism of events like this is whether or not gamers have what it takes to transition to real motorsport. Take note of the fellow wearing the 24 Hours of Le Mans shirt, to the right of the announcer. In a brief snippet, he mentions that the Nurburgring is his home track. It’s worth mentioning that many racers spend their “off-season” practicing in the virtual world. Perhaps this is the case for this gamer, as well.

Well, it seems we will find out in the next episode. Four finalists won out in the last virtual championship, and they are headed straight to the “IRL” race track, with real Porsche 911 models. Can they level up and meet the challenge? Time will tell.
