991.2 911 Carrera 4S: The True Year-Round 911

By -

Sometimes the best things are revealed through the most unconventional circumstances.

As snow descends on cold-weather regions, blanketing the streets and landscape, many enthusiasts tuck their Porsches away for the winter. But here’s a guy from Pennsylvania who thinks fresh snowfall is the perfect time to enjoy his 2018 991.2 911 Carrera 4s despite sub-optimal conditions. RegularCars (aka RCR) on YouTube takes somewhat of an unconventional and radical perspective on reviewing vehicles, and his take on this Carrera is no different. (If you don’t know what we mean, you’ll understand as soon as you start watching the video.)

Porsche ownership in rural Pennsylvania is relatively rare. So people don’t exactly know how to react when they see a 911 driving around in the snow. This Sapphire Blue Metallic example isn’t exactly a subtle vehicle. People come up to the owner to ask him questions about the car. And the vehicle has the tendency to attract an unusual amount of attention. One of the most common questions asked is, “how much is it?”

The host of RCR, known by his alias Mr. Regular, provides a hilarious response to this question. “If you ask how much a 911 is, it means you’re going to get a Corvette.” The beauty of this vehicle is the fact it doesn’t belong. People honk at the owner when they see him driving in the snow. Some even follow, flashing their lights. However, little do they know that “an AWD 911 is just as capable in the snow as a WRX, Evo, or Volvo.”

The big difference? “It just has way more power and a distracting appearance.”

So, what does any self-respecting Porsche owner do when he’s told to slow down or to stop driving in the snow? He downshifts the 420 HP twin-turbo flat-six and floors it, lighting up all four tires instantly and leaving a wake of fresh snow and even more confusion for the onlooking traffic. A 991.2 isn’t exactly a cheap vehicle, people are naive to think that owners will not want to enjoy their money’s worth at all times. If that wasn’t the case, they wouldn’t have bought a twin-turbo 911, to begin with.

Chaos Brings the 911 to Life

Mr. Regular then explains how snow-covered roads bring this 7-speed manual-equipped 911 “to life.” Some Porsches are for pampering, while some, “you enjoy savagely.” This 4S Carrera is the latter. It’s even more capable year-round than you expect. It has all the necessities and every function is built for driving pleasure.

Is it the most enticing 911 in the model line up? No. Mr. Regular sees this 911, in normal conditions, as a little cold and calculating. But, “introduce chaos and a Porsche comes alive.” If you break the consistency of your environment, you’ll find the experience all the more rewarding.

Cheers to you, 911 owners. You definitely made the right choice.
