We first caught a glimpse of Bentley’s race car concept at the LA Autoshow. Under the convention center lights, it looked horribly out of place among it’s posh brethren. It’s a Bentley Continental for chrissakes. That’s a car built for power cruises up the French Riviera, not dicing it up with Porches down the Mulsanne straight. Seeing the flying B all dressed up in racing colors is weird.

And yet here we are, with the Continental GT3 making it’s debut at the 2013 Gulf 12 hours in Abu Dhabi. I’m equal parts bewildered and impressed.

This car marks Bentley’s return to motorsport after a decade of not bothering. As you might expect, the differences between this car and the Continental GT it’s based on, are extensive. A twin-turbo V8 takes the place of the W12. Also, the AWD system has been dropped in favor of a more sensible rwd setup. It’ll weigh significantly less as well. Which is good, because the average Bentley weighs about as much as a adolescent African elephant.
