Bugatti Chiron Now Offers ‘Sky View’ Glass Roof Option

Bugatti showcases revised Chiron with optional “Sky View” which improves in-cabin lighting and sense of airiness and spaciousness.
Bugatti is now giving occupants of the Chiron a chance to have a clear view of the sky. Effective immediately, Bugatti customers who want to enjoy sunlight from above in their new Chiron can do so with the “Sky View” option. Sky View consists of two fixed glass panels in the roof of the vehicle, above the driver’s and passenger’s seats. These two glass panels measure 25.6-inches long and 17.3-inches wide, which is oddly specific. These panels have a newly developed laminated structure with thin glass and four intermediate layers.
Each of those four layers meets Bugatti’s exacting and rigorous requirements. This intensive engineering results in a reduction of undesirable wind noise, and, additionally, infrared radiation is reflected away from the Chiron’s cabin to ensure maximum thermal comfort. This is, of course, a most amusing way to say “it keeps the interior cooler.” Naturally, the glass is tinted to prevent glare in the cabin, and, as Bugatti says, “to protect occupants’ privacy.” Oh, and, finally, harmful ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) radiation is filtered out. Sunlight welcome, sunscreen optional.
Rather interestingly, Bugatti claims that Sky View improves the stiffness of the roof panels. That’s some tough laminated glass. Straight from Bugatti PR: “The outstanding structural properties of the Chiron, including the stiffness of the overall vehicle and crash safety, are maintained.”Additionally, a Chiron with Sky View also offers an additional inch of headroom over the standard car.

Bugatti plans to present the Chiron Sky View at the Monterey Car Week in California at the end of August 2018. We hope to check it out in person while we’re there.
