Bugatti Reveals Lighter, More Dynamic Model Name Divo

Bugatti Divo

Instead of top speed in a straight line, the Divo aims for top cornering speed.

Ultra-fast, exclusive, and expensive hypercars are starting to crop up all over the place, and Bugatti wants in on the action. In a surprise move, the W16 heavyweight is planning to shed some weight and add some downforce with a model called the Divo. Road & Track mentions this model is named after Albert Divo, a driver of French origin who brought home two victories for Bugatti back in the 1920’s at the infamous Targa Florio race. That same agility is now to be found in Bugatti’s newest hypercar.

Details are slim for the Devo as of yet, but it is fair to assume it will be based on the Chiron platform. Slim will also apply to the weight too, as it will be far lighter than any prior Bugatti in order to gain higher cornering speeds. To aid in that will be higher levels of down-force as well. What won’t be slim is the price tag. Early indications indicate $6,000,000 after taxes, and only 40 will be made. We’ll know a lot more though in just a few weeks as the Divo will debut at “The Quail – A Motorsport Gathering” in late August.

Bugatti’s reputation as an unstoppable force was solidified with the Veyron and now the Chiron, so does a lighter, more track focused model sit well within the ethos of the brand? Of course it wasn’t just speed that made a Bugatti a Bugatti. Instead it was the ease of which the car could be driven, the depth of speed attainable by a driver of any skill and of course, the remarkable quality of the interior appointments. Sacrificing any of those qualities seems a bit odd, but in the pursuit of speed, if there’s one company that can make speed comfortable, it’s Bugatti.
