Bugatti Divo is hardest, lightest, quickest and most agile Bugatti ever made.

This is it, the Bugatti Divo. We have known that it was coming, and now, at Pebble Beach, it has officially debuted. The Divo is an all-new model from exclusive hypercar manufacturer Bugatti, and it takes the improvements the brand made on Chiron, from Veyron, and cranks the metaphorical dial up to 11.

The Bugatti Veyron was infamous for it’s 1,000 horsepower engine (later turned up to 1,200) and ludicrous 254 MPH top speed. It’s successor, the Chiron, not only had much more power (1,500), but, at the time, Bugatti claimed it was the best handling car they had ever produced. In fact, when I drove Chiron last Summer, the Bugatti team repeatedly mentioned how much more agile and better handling the Chiron was over Veyron. They said one of their chief goals was to make it more fun, and more of the driver’s car.

Divo has been named after French racing driver Albert Divo, a Bugatti pilot, and two time winner of the perilous Targa Florio in the 1920s. It’s fitting that a French hypercar manufacturer pays homage to a French racing driver by making it’s latest car the most track-focused of any Bugatti to date. And, if any car manufacturer was crazy enough to make an homage to me, I would wish for them to do it like Bugatti has done for Monsieur Divo. Did you notice the color? Even the lacquer on the carbon fiber body work has been tinted in a custom Divo Blue hue.

Now, Divo takes what the Chiron started and has more of everything, except, of course, where there’s less. The quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine, cribbed from the Chiron, makes 1,500 horsepower. The body is lighter, 77 pounds lighter, to be specific. There is a lot more downforce at play, too. Bugatti claims Divo produces 1,003 pounds of the stuff at top speed, which is 198 more than Chiron.

Speaking of that top speed, in an effort to make Divo the ultimate track weapon, those downforce tweaks, in conjunction with the chassis, and suspension changes actually reduce top speed, at a paltry 236 MPH. However, we think the top speed trade off is easily worth it. Why? Well, not only does Bugatti claim that Divo is more engaging to drive at low speed, but that it’s eight seconds a lap faster around the 3.85-mile long Nardò handling circuit than Chiron. Yes, eight seconds a lap faster. That is a massive step forward.

How much does all of this excellence cost, you my be wondering? €5 million, which, at the time of this writing, is $5,815,000. That’s roughly twice as much as the $3,000,000 Chiron. However, Bugatti is only building 40 Divo models in total, and that’s it. Want one? Well, sad to say, they’ve all been sold already. Bugatti’s selective clientele demanded a bespoke model like Divo, and thus it was built to fulfill their desires. If you do ever see one in the wild, please send us pictures, because good lord is it pretty.
